Opinions

This company has 166 reviews on Google My Business, with an impressive average opinion of 4.9/5. Many visitors highly recommend an afternoon visit to Rainbow Falls, as the sun's angle is optimal for witnessing the famous rainbow effect created by the falling water. However, it is essential to note that the best time to see the rainbow varies depending on the season and weather conditions.

"If you want to go down to the bottom of the falls and swim under them, there are steps to descend the more than 100 foot drop."

For those seeking a more adventurous experience, Rainbow Falls offers the opportunity to explore the base of the falls and swim in the refreshing water. Visitors should exercise caution, as the drop is over 100 feet, and the steps leading down can be steep and slippery.

1.5 mile moderate trail from the parking lot. If you want to go down to the bottom of the falls and swim under them, there are steps to descend the more than 100 foot drop. Recommend an afternoon visit to be able to see rainbow when the sun is at the best angle. We were there at 1:00 in late September, but the sun's angle was too low to shine on the falls. I suggest after 2:00 pm

Nice waterfall about 100 feet high on the Middle Fork of San Joaquin river. It's 2,5 miles south of Devils Postpile and can be reached with a easy and relaxing walk through the woods. As the name suggests, it's quite common to see the rainbow here on a sunny day.

Ended up hiking in from Mammoth Pass Trail. Pretty big waterfall with a nice little overlook. Only saw a hint of rainbow during my visit (October, early afternoon). Didn't realize there were stairs.

One of my favorite hike in Mammoth lakes area, 5 miles out-and-back trail, lots of wildflowers and creek and springs, Rainbow falls is stunning this year, spectacular views from all view points. Must do it if you are at devil’s postpile. Highly recommend this trail.

We visited here with family in the August 2018.

We enjoyed the easy 5-mile out-and-back hike to Rainbow Falls. The trail is not rough and only drops about 500' to the Falls.

Great photo ops along the way at the Devils Postpile.

*only open on weekends * It was a long trail, but definitely worth every mile. The hardest part are the stairs going down to the river and waterfall. Definitely recommend bringing water and snacks, and arriving before 9am as parking is limited. 10/10

Spectacular hike. Our pedometer said it was 3.09 miles each direction. There is some uphill in both directions.

But the falls are so beautiful. The forest is amazing and the little forest creatures are adorable.

This hike was on my bucket list. I had to work hard to get in shape to do it, boy am I glad I did. It was wonderful!!!!

We went there for the fall color in early October. You will pass by Devil's Postpile. The trail was easy. Though at this time the water volume is low. Still, the Rainbow Falls is worth the trip plus you did get beautiful fall colors.
