This is a small studio, but we absolutely love the atmosphere. The instructor is very welcoming to all students. My four year old was accepted and has really begun to do well even after just a few months. The other parents are kind. They hold a class on Saturday, so I have the opportunity to take my son. My son loves it here. Go tiger cubs!

My husband has also joined the Iron Tiger class. He enjoys it and loves learning the skills to support our son.

We highly recommend The Academy of Applied Martial Arts.

My daughter wanted to learn martial arts after watching Mulan. I honestly didn’t think she was going to like it but I signed her up at a different studio and we had a bad experience. I was ready to write the whole thing off as a bad job when I found this dojo. Our experience here has been wonderful and welcoming. The instructor as well as the older students and parents have been welcoming and encouraging to my daughter. She is now a yellow belt and wants her green. I am sure we will be here for many years to come.

We decided to get our boys in karate for self defense 9months ago. When we first arrived we felt the discipline and self confidence our boys were getting. In that process I ended up signing into the class myself to continue to motivate our boys. I realized that it made me stronger not only physically, but mentally as well. I have also gain confidence and enjoy the physical challenges(workout) we get in class. Since then, I competed on my first tournament(which was scary) and youngest also competed on his first tournament and watching him do his katas and sparring was really impressive🥰 this dojo isn’t just a class, but really make you feel like a team(family). Push you hard, because Shihan wants you to become better than we think we are. My boys and I enjoy the class, the motivation, and the positive energy.

I've been here for almost 4 years and I have to say the amount of professionalism that comes from the instructors is astounding. Everyone who helps in the dojo gives it their all because they care about the environment and the students. They teach anyone and they make everyone feel welcome whether they've been there or they are new. The head instructor cares about making his students strong. This way you aren't just strong during a workout but strong in everyday life. If I hadn't joined and stayed when it got tough I wouldn't be the person I am today. Whether you're interested or you've been to a dojo before this is a place for everyone.

Karate has taught my granddaughter confidence, respect, pride and raised her self esteem. Her Shehan and Sensei have become great mentors. She truely looks up to them. When she started here 6 months ago, she was shy and very unsure of herself. Not today. She's transformed. She works hard. Within her first 3 months she competed in her first tournament and has continued moving forward with all she has. It's the environment here that encourages her and instills her hunger for learning.

This Dojo has become a second home for both of us. A family. Every student is taught in a way they learn with one on one attention given to each student. In addition to class instruction. Students learn at different levels and here they teach "the student". I encourage anyone looking for a place, to come here.

Sensei Don Burnell has been my Sensei and good friend for 17+ years now. The Academy of Applied Martial Arts offers quality martial arts training in a very fun and safe atmosphere for all ages.
Training at The Academy of Applied Martial Arts under the instruction of Sensei Don Burnell (AKA The Iron Shihan) has been a life changing experiance for me in more ways than one.

Shihan Burnell is an excellent instructor. He is well-versed in the martial arts as well as other forms of self defense. You will receive a great workout, no matter what classes you take. One of Shihan Burnell's many strengths is working with kids and teaching them discipline and respect. He strives to promote a family atmosphere.
