Beautiful and family friendly library. Love the fact that is situated by the marina. If you are lucky to grab a seat by the window overlooking the water then you are in serenity. 😲 This is one of my favorite library. The only thing that I am kinda bump out about this place is its an old library. Computers are not really up to date, the lack of outlet to charge our phone and laptop is a struggle. They have one big room where the power outlet located. When that room is taken for a meeting for a half day then best of luck finding an outlet to charge your electronics. It's a small library surrounded by pricey homes (hmm... 🤔). Staff are great and helpful. Just hope that the county would develop this place sooner.

This is hard for me to write because the staff is great the play area is good and it has a beautiful view. The last couple of times I was there there have been scary men outside screaming at people (and inside) and also a man had a pit bull in the library who I am guessing was not a service dog. Its not worth taking the chance of having something go bad. There is an armed guard at other branches that take their job seriously (Culver City)and we feel very safe with her there. Was looking for variety but safety is most important.

I love their selection of travel and sailing books. But I've felt unsafe every time I've come here, even to drop off a book. A couple days ago, I was followed on foot by a needlessly aggravated homeless man who then proceeded to follow me on bike and then try to block my car as I was making my exit. I was so close to running him over. It's the first time, in my whole lifetime of living in L.A, that I've ever felt like I must live in Gotham City now...

The library by itself is really clean. Nice and welcome. The view is gorgeous to the Marina. many spots to seat and work with your computer.
But 70 % of the visitors are homeless people. and it feels and smells like a homeless camp.
Unfortunately, it’s hard not to pay attention to these when you try to work.
Public library supposed to be a safe place and this is not the case.

“ My Sacred Space”

This library is more than just my holy place,

more dear to me than any religion.

Way more than just my own personal saving grace,

All types of sacred knowledge freely given.

With my imagination and creativity unbounded,

Why some take advantage has left me dumbfounded.

In this haven of books, I find solace profound.

Where pages whisper stories, waiting to be found.

Within these timeless walls, my spirit takes flight,

Exploring realms of wisdom, both day and night.

But alas, some souls misuse this sacred space,

Their disregard for knowledge, a sad disgrace.

Yet the library staff, a beacon of grace,

Navigating challenges with a steadfast pace.

They guide the lost souls with patience and care,

Ensuring books are cherished, protected, and fair.

Oh, library, you’re a sanctuary of dreams,

Where the mind can roam, boundless it seems.

With every turn of a page, I’m transported anew,

Into worlds of wonder, where possibilities brew.

So let us cherish this treasure trove of thought,

Where ideas flourish, and battles are fought.

For the library is more than just a place,

It’s a refuge for the curious, a haven of grace.

To all those who will have never known,

The tragic misfortune of not having a home

For all those who complain of the body-odor.

That is to their disdain, remember this is a place

Where the very few will acknowledge your existence

And with that simple act comfort your pain.

" The inspiration for this poem came from not only the wonderful library staff but also from reading a few of the hurtful reviews directed at the misfortunes of others on Google Maps. In particular, these two from Maya Shahnovich and Brendan White.

You can find me at this library, writing poetry and smelling like too much cologne. I don't think you two have ever thought of this, but when you are homeless, knowing that you smell and there is nothing you can do about it is the worst feeling in the world. It has left an indelible scar on my soul, so much so that when I had the money, I spent most of it on three items: socks, underwear, and cologne. Altogether, I spent around ten thousand dollars. I will post some of my photos as proof.

I hope that you never have to experience anything similar. While at the same time, I hope you grow a soul and have a little more empathy for all my brothers and sisters who have fallen through the cracks and are suffering mistreatment by our society around them." ❤️ 💙
