We took our son for surf lessons in Venice on his birthday. Caroline was an amazing instructor! She was so knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The experience was 10/10 and I would recommend Aloha Brothers to anyone wanting a private lesson!

After my son and his friend went pretty hard on the boogie boards, I knew it was time for them to give surfing a shot. As SoCal boys, it's a right of passage. The lesson could not have been better. Aloha brothers provides wetsuits and boards as part of the lesson. The instructor, Taylor, was so kind and patient and made the lesson so fun that neither kid wanted to take a break during the 90-minute session. To put that into perspective, we had to walk three blocks with surfboards, and they required three breaks to make it through that experience. Both boys ended up being able to stand on the board and could not wait for their next lesson. My son struggles to keep doing something if it's difficult, but thanks to Taylor's encouragement, he kept failing and kept getting back up and trying again.

Communication with Nick, the owner, was fantastic. The price was great for a two-person private lesson (check the website for the latest pricing).

I had an incredible experience learning to surf with Nick and Danny! From the very beginning, Nick was thorough and helpful with all the details, keeping up with me over digital communication and making sure everything went smoothly. His attentiveness really set the stage for a wonderful lesson.

Danny, my instructor, was truly amazing. His patience and encouragement helped calm my nerves, especially since I was a bit hesitant about trying something new and tackling the ocean for the first time. He has a great way of guiding you through the process while making sure you feel grounded and safe, even in the waves. Danny’s knowledge, paired with his kindness, made the lesson a positive and uplifting experience.

If you’re new to surfing or even just to the ocean, I highly recommend this team. They provide a supportive and welcoming learning space where you feel empowered to keep trying. I’m excited to continue building on what I learned today and will definitely be booking another lesson soon!

Awesome surf school. Ask for Sean, he was dope. Had us both riding within 4 lessons. The package was a mix of private and group lessons depending on that week’s schedule, but the groups were small and chill. Highly recommend.

Our family group of all ages had a blast with Aloha Brothers Surf Lessons; highly recommend! Nick and his team were amazing. I was referred by a good friend and I'm so glad we went with them for our very first lesson. Can't wait to get back to LA, or Oahu, to catch some more waves with Aloha Brothers again.

A few highlights:

* Our 6 year old stood up on just about every wave! Unprompted, he told us that "Nick is a very good teacher". He was loving every moment of the lesson and was so sad when it was time to wrap up. Our nephews, 10 and 13yo, loved it too; a highlight of their trip to LA from the Midwest (and we all spent the first half of the week in Disneyland).

* Nick was very kind, knowledgeable, and safety-minded. The kids loved how he made conversation with them while waiting for their next wave. I loved seeing my son stick his hand out of the water before surfacing to protect his head each time he fell, just like Nick taught him.

* Nick gave continuous feedback and tips for improvement. His goal was to make it fun and enjoyable while setting an educational foundation for future family vacations.

* Nick passed along tidbits of his mother's and father's words of surfing wisdom, which were particularly interesting since his family roots in Hawaii go back to the 1800's.

One tip if grandparents and/or extra little ones are in your crew - it's a bit of a walk to the beach from their place. It's lovely, and we passed right underneath the famous Venice sign. We brought a wagon to carry our 3yo and extra stuff. Next time we'll pack the non-surfers some extra snacks.

Taking surf lessons with Nick was the highlight of our trip to Los Angeles. I have surfed a little bit but my wife is a complete beginner and I wanted her to have a great time. They have all the equipment, they teach a great class about ocean safety and really make it fun. We were both up and riding waves on the first day, and I was catching waves on my own by the second. It is worth it to buy the package with the private lesson so that you can go several days in a row.

On a side note, Nick has the best recommendations for Venice Beach and LA in general. Anybody who is visiting Los Angeles needs to schedule some time to take some surf lessons. It is the best feeling ever!!
