I used to enjoy the Ammon DI thrift store. However, my experience yesterday with one of the managers is the reason that I most likely will not be returning. I stop by the DI many times a week on my way home from work looking for a specific type of stuffed animal/plush. I am heading to Kenya, and I look for really soft and squishy stuffed animals that are easy to vacuum seal and pack in a suitcase for kids in a very poor village that I’m visiting. Every single time I go to the DI, the smaller stuffed animals are $1 and the large are $2. Yesterday I got to the cash register with one of the regular cashiers that I’ve come to know, and as she was ringing me up, one of the managers stopped her and told her that the small stuffed animals are $3 and the large are $5. She looked shocked, and I told him that the small ones are $1 and the large ones are $2. He responded by low-key arguing with me saying that he was in the back while they were pricing them, and that the stickers are on the plushes. As he was looking for the stickers, which there were none, I told him that I’ve been coming there almost every day, including the day before, and the prices have always been $1 and $2. And he continued to insist that they are $3 and $5. Not only is a 200% increase overnight ridiculous, but none of the cashiers were made aware of this supposed increase. That manager not only exhibited poor managerial qualities, but extremely poor customer relations skills. I’m extremely disappointed because I used to think that was a good store. Now, I look at the Ammon DI as another greedy, money-grabbing institution. I’m extremely disappointed with how the situation was handled, and I chose to walk away empty handed. I’ll spend my money somewhere else.
