We’ve been waiting for over 3 years for adequate respite. (And have been on the ‘emergency’ list for at least 2 years before that.) Our son had over the last 15 years, 2 exceptional respite providers that truly gave us ‘breathing room’ and a few hours weekly of respite (usually nothing beyond 5 hours a week), but as they moved on, no replacements were had by the supervisors who oversaw my son’s case. My son has hours, but no one to provide respite and this was before Covid!!This time would have been very valuable to us, now lost! Currently, if it wasn’t for the chance meeting last August of a respite provider (not our son’s), but someone who knows our son we would still have no respite through EFR. We now have 2-3 hours on Sundays if this person is available. If Staffing shortages are the issue, (as I’ve heard for at least 8 years) dangle a bigger carrot!
