Better than previous years. But not much news on current bargaining and the pay rises for Sp. Ed. Teachers that were due to expire before the 2025 contract ends. Unless, I was too busy with the paperwork that I complete after scheduled hours and on weekends. It appears that has been a constant in my 4 decades of teaching.

Very bad experience. I got fished by them. Thousands messages and phone calls to participate in an event called New Hire Orientation. I had no idea about CCEA and as e new teacher for CCSD, I was thinking it is related with it. I asked but I was told I have to come and participate. Ok, I told them I will come.Without any explanation the very first thing was to sign up a paper as a new membership for CCEA. Unfortunately, I was without any experience, I had no idea about CCEA, and in the paper they provided for us there was zero explanation regarding the monthly fee. The amount wasn’t there. They took our personal information, in one way we were forced to filled out the forms they provided for us. No one explained to me what was hidden after that. So, they fished me, unfortunately, partially is my fault that I trusted to them, and now they are deducting money from every paycheck. For what ? Where is this money going to? What are they supposed to do to me? I asked to be removed but nope. No answer from the president, no answer from manager, no answers from anyone. Only another member told me that only the board can decide if I can leave or not and the yearly fee again will be deducted. My understanding is that they are fishing inexperienced people, they are forcing us to be part of CCEA without our desire, without our pleasure to be part in the union and we are their robber. This is shameless. This is to be their victim, this means to be stolen by their team. No one can force me to do things I do not like to do. They have ZERO TRANSPARENCY. The monthly fee wasn’t posted in that paper. I will call my Social Security office to let them know that thy have my social number unfortunately. I will involve my attorney in this situation.

Discriminatory and very curt. Atleast be polite if someone is asking you a question. Wasted so much of my pay check. They just protect themselves, not teachers. Rude, please don’t waste your hard earned money here.
The unenrollment can be done on from July 1-15 each year. I will be unenrolling. Basic manners and politeness have escaped them. They have never done anything for teachers in Clark county.

I am a member, got talked into joining again under the lip service the union is “You” and how we need more teachers. However, I have found that they will push their agenda even if many disagree. They are in bed with THT. Barely any providers want to work with THT because they aren’t paying bills. The union keeps focusing on what THT once was and could be again instead of the very real and serious problem we have now. It does not matter how much more money the district could contribute when doctors won’t take the insurance. Centennial hospital, Cancer centers of Nevada, SimonMed imaging all dropped. We are female dominant profession and many of the better OB/GYN‘s that help with debilitating reproductive diseases such as endometriosis, no longer take THT. Mental health is a big issue and yet we only have nine participating psychologist, no psychiatrist. One of the board members happens do you therapist and she will not take THT. Almost every teacher I’ve spoken to in my workplace would prefer to go with a for-profit insurance. But the story spun is that UnitedHealth is a monopoly and they will give us premiums that are way too high. This is not true. I had them while at a charter school and teachers had six options. Yes, did I have to pay into it? Yes. I paid $110 a month for coverage that was far superior to teachers Health trust with a lower deductible, lower out-of-pocket max, better co-pays and better coinsurance percentages-especially for out of network. With teachers Health trust, many of us will be forced to go out of network for care and this will be extremely expensive considering only 50% is covered by the trust. Other insurance plans cover 70 to 80%. There is also Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

The representatives at CCEA are hostile when it is suggested we drop the trust. How about giving teacher choice? Let them choose? I have never seen a survey from the union asking teachers what they would prefer; they know the answer and don’t wish to admit it.

I feel I was tricked into becoming a member-I was told my voice would be heard. I wasn’t told I would be pushed to comply and be considered a scab if I brought different options to the table.

3) I had the class from hell this year (my first year with CCSD and on probation for 3 years), the students that were being written up decided to railroad me and told stories to admin. I had to endure 3 investigatory conferences because of this. I had my union rep at the first one, he did nothing. I was exonerated on all but 1 charge, which was raising my voice and dropping a book on my desk to get their attention. I did everything that was directed of me, sent the finding to the union twice each time nobody called or emailed me. I did not ask for representation on the other 2, again I was exonerated of the charges but still had to follow multiple directives from admin.

In the end my evaluation was mostly 3's and one 4, and one 2 because of these conferences (unfair as far as I am concerned). I am leaving the district after 1 year because their demands are overwhelming and their discipline policies do nothing to deter students from acting out whenever they want, the students who want to learn do not have a chance!

Last year I had to endure an Investigatory meeting. The Uniserv Rep asked very few question, permitted much, and, in the end, I was very dissatisfied and concerned as to what the findings of the Investigation Results would be, when published.

I would think that at the very least the Rep would bring a tape recorder to enable us to verify who said what, when, and what, exactly was said so that could be compared to the report. I asked the Rep how I could reply to the finding if I was dissatisfied, I was told that the rep would get back to me to confirm the proper methodology (Careful.... you only have 30 days!). Although I emailed my rep to followup that inquiry... I never heard back.

I received the finding from my administrator, identified many "quotes" and statements where my reply was taken out of contest or misquoted. I asked my admin. how I could respond and was promised direction as to how to respond. I asked and was promised by my admin four times (my mistake was it was verbal.... always, always use email...). I was blindly operating under the misconception that we were both professionals. My Uniserve Rep never did get back to me and by the time that I learned that I had only 30 days to reply.... the reply time had expired.

No, I am not impressed with representation that I have received so far and may end my CCEA membership this year, which saddens me, but that will allow me the funds to engage an attorney to obtain better advice.
