Never did I ever think students and instructors could be so rude. I actually got told I would never be hired anywhere unless I wore dark glasses or got glass eyes. I never got Windows training. Most people there had vision. Someone always had problems with my clothes. I wasn’t included. They all had their little clicks. I was told I would never get good at mobility. I’m pretty good at it now. These people may have been bullies, but I am stronger now. I use my voice. My mobility is better. I only wear glasses when light bugs me. I warn people of Blind Connect. If I can stop people from going through what I did, I will. Another thing, they tried to get me in customer service which is not what I want to pursue. I could go on and on about the stuff that happened. By the way, telling someone they would make a good maid is not a compliment. They told me I needed to bring my note taker, and then, complained about the clicking sound. They fired my favorite teacher. The list goes on and on.

Center looks awesome from afar. I tried to start some contract work there. I really had my hopes up that this would be the spot where things would be very lined up (all at a center; decent amenities) I could concisely make a difference at and also make a very decent living (although to be fair, there are higher paying opportunities for what I do).

Anyways- After a good hour talk with the director, I was told I could get all the contract work I wanted - but that I still needed to be vetted. I have about 7 solid references to vouch for me, so I had no worries in mind.

I was going to move out there. After that I waited about a month with no word from them, and reached out to be told by the director that they were, in all transparency - busy with a fair.

After that about another month passed, and I heard nothing back again... so I reached out again, and was told - sorry to get my hopes up, but that funds were not currently available.

About two weeks later I reached out again to ask if she knew of a possible time line in which funds might resurface; and I received no response. I then reached out again to say even if it took a year- I would still be interested. Feeling a little put to the side, but mostly just angry and disappointed about not being able to contract at the nice center... About two weeks later, frustrated - I reached out to the director and told her that I changed my mind because I wasn't particularly happy with her lack of communication, and that if she were not to communicate more clearly, that I would probably aim my services elsewhere, for the obvious reasons of there not being a need.

She responded on the weekend, that unfortunately, I was too demanding and that it wasn't a good fit. That's when I laid into her for basically being a bit petty. I don't feel as though I overreacted.

I don't advise anyone to work with her. I realize she is blind - and maybe things are harder to keep up with- and personally I'm fully sighted and have trouble sometimes. But regardless of her circumstances, business is a two way street, and disabilities don't give you the right to act superior as well as a bit sketchy. Plenty of other people have harsh realities to deal with daily - and they don't get a pass. (Just start with the fact that she never once reached out to update me after basically promising me the gig - and then blaming me for being upset.)

Basically the overall message I got is - she'll treat someone who is really excited to help her clients and the center (you know - the demanding type) - as though he/or she is 2nd rate. Good luck to them getting qualified, motivated staff members who have the drive to make a real difference - because that egoistic attitude trickles downwards. It's not like this is House of Cards. Nobodies making 500k a year, and nobody should feel all that powerful. I could be way off base - and happy to apologize if that comes to light - but my instincts tell me she's letting a little tiny bit of power go to her head. I think we're all capable of doing that sometimes, but it doesn't make for good business relationships.

Someone commented the staff doesn't make you feel very welcome. At no point did any member of staff offer their phone number. Some would say if you need something call but you had to go and ask. that is very off putting to many including me. It really showed how very little most cared about us. Most going through this program are going through a great deal and they feel alone, last thing they need is to feel like that around those that are there to help. One of the staff members is a nice person i guess, but he has no idea how to teach anyone anything. Beyond that they have other staffing issues they really need to address. Until that issue is resolved it would be impossible to recomend this program to anyone.

UPDATED 6/24/18: I disagree with those (same person by the way) saying staff is unwelcoming and unfriendly. THAT IS SIMPLY UNTRUE AND YOU KNOW IT!!! You originally could not say or do enough for this organization...until you were no longer welcome because you got caught telling delusional lies and making up really crazy stories. Also, you were completely enamored with the therapist and wanted to be just like her! Portraying yourself as knowing everything about everything and thinking nobody is as smart or good as you only shows what an idiot you are. FYI: trying to make yourself look good at others expense and thinking you're better than everyone is not a good look. You need to face reality that it's you that is the problem.

ORIGINAL POST: Gave me the tools necessary to live independently. Cannot say enough about Angela's House/Blind Connect and the wonderful services provided.

I love Blindconnect Angela's House. I learned a lot and it really build my confidence going through the program. It was dry at times and I wish it was a little better organised but the Pros really really really out way the cons. I would recommend Blindconnect to anyone who is looking to learn how to adjust to a loss in eye sight.

I had to do an assessment here to be able to get rides from this establishment for medical appointments. Very nice staff, drinking fountain available, bathrooms available. Very clean.
