The preservation of historical native artifacts can teach us a lot about the human experience of the past, but also lets us see today's world with fresh eyes. One instance: the sleekness and thoughtful design of sleds and kayaks compare favorably with modern designs made with computational optimization. Though human tools have evolved, our products have not evolved as much as we may think.

Jeffery was fantastic. He was so kind and wonderful to our family. The museum itself has a great layout and we enjoyed the drawer system for viewing collections. Go see this museum, there is so much amazing history stored within.

A very unique experience. For those on a cruise this is worth the walk to see. Many cool artifacts with an interesting back story to the building. Lots of documented history and the lady at the front desk was very knowledgeable.

A visit to this museum was the last item on my cruise ship tour bus. It is such an amazing museum that I would have happily spent all day in it! I've been to museums of Alaska artifacts elsewhere, but this, in my view is the best! It has some items found in any museum, but what you need to do is go through the cabinet drawers! Each drawer contains a specific focus - and many topics I had never even heard of! AND it covers each of the Indigenous peoples of Alaska. I cannot emphasize enough - skip the (overcrowded) usual tour stops and head straight for this museum. You won't regret it!

This is the oldest and most comprehensive collection of Alaska native heritage artifacts.
It's a small museum with a wealth of information and treasures to appreciate.
The docent, Ramon, was incredibly informative and knowledgeable.
Don't overlook this wonderful museum.

I love learning about the history of the Alaskan native tribal cultures and their art but not so much the history of Sheldon Jackson and what he did to the families. Yes, it is a great collection but I felt very sad by the facts of how these cultural items were obtained.
