We took the Roadside Naturalist Field Course in Denali with Alex. It was amazing. In addition to imparting an incredible amount of knowledge about the park, Alex was an excellent hike leader. Want to know about the wildlife? Check. The flora and the fauna? Check. The geology of the rocks and mountains? Check. The history of the park? Check. Insects? Check. Birds? Check. Living in Alaska during the winter? Check. It was impossible to stump her. For the drive portion of the trip, Alex continuously spotted animals (caribou, bears, Dahl sheep, birds). For the hiking portion of the program, she led us down riverbeds, through forests and into several micro climates. Don't waste your money on a large group tour. Take this course and really learn about Denali, the park and the mountain. Were so impressed.

Alaska Geographic Association came aboard our cruise ship along with the rangers. They had a table set up with items to purchase. Unfortunately, I was overcharged as the woman working marked the wrong item. I didn't realize it until we were disembarking so no chance to get a refund.

The AGA occupies a repurposed train shed in the midst of high tourist traffic, but sadly, what little products they had for purchase were out of date (maps had 1982 copyright) and no display space dedicated to their work or to explain their historical building. I found the underutilization of space and the missed opportunities to educate visitors highly frustrating. Give it a pass.

A good place to stop for information about Alaska and to purchase souvenirs. Sold out items that are supposed to be here as the major post for all things of National park service in the region hurts the rating.

During store hours, no one working willing to make a sale in the retail department. Despite calling ahead, open building, and people working, I was told to come back in a week.
