I am thrilled to share my experience with Master Alonzo’s Taekwondo classes in Mar Vista! In just a couple of months, my toddler has blossomed under his guidance, gaining confidence and discipline. Master Alonzo has a unique ability to connect with kids, making every class filled with laughter and giggles.

His teaching approach emphasizes the importance of enforcing boundaries and showing respect, which has been amazing for my son. It's incredible to see him excited about attending classes, as this is the first physical activity he truly looks forward to. Thank you, Master Alonzo, for your fantastic work and dedication to nurturing our little ones!

My 5-year old has been going here for about 2 months now, after having tried a couple other taekwondo dojangs. The classes have been great for developing her strength, coordination, and balance. And more importantly, she is having a blast.

I think Master Alonzo is terrific with kids and would venture to say that's his strongest skill set and what set him apart from other instructors. His focus for kids at the 4-5 year old level is more about teaching kids to control their bodies and helping them develop their strength and agility.

He also has an anti-bullying component that teaches social skills for avoiding fights, as well as basic blocks and a hip-throw if necessary. That said, I would say that fighting is not a focus of the class at the 4-5 age range.

The membership also includes jiu jitsu classes on Friday with a separate instructor. The scheduling for that class is tricky for me so my kid has only gone once, but that class seemed to focus more on traditional BJJ fighting techniques.

My son has been training with Master Alonzo for almost 3 years. He's come such a long way as a martial arts student and as a young man because of what he's learned from Master Alonzo.

I continue to be impressed by the heart and dedication Master Alonzo has for his students and his true talent for working with children. As a former teacher, you can just tell when someone has that certain kind of magic that makes them a gifted educator. He has that magic, and the kids recognize it pretty much instantly. He's firm, but kind. He sets boundaries and makes them laugh. They listen to him, and he listens to them.

I've also benefitted from the defense classes he hosts with Impact Personal Safety.

As of a few months ago the dojang has moved to a new Culver City location and the dojang is better than ever! Master Alonzo has a lot of cool ideas for additional classes and training for the dojang, and I'm excited to see what's next!

Master Alonzo not only provides a fun and engaging class for kids. He plays a positive and empowering role in our daughter’s life. Classes there have improved her listening skills and her understanding of respect. Master Alonzo has also given her the tools to stand her ground and protect herself against bullies. It would be difficult to overstate how much we appreciate Master Alonzo and the work he does. I wish there were many more people of his talents and abilities out there, because I know there are thousands of kids all over L.A. who could get SO much out of attending classes here-- but there's only one Master Alonzo. It's not about the physical skills my kids are learning-- well, it is, those are important too-- but it's about so much more! The social and emotional learning my kids do here make this place a truly unique place, and we're just so glad to have found it. Master Alonzo is truly a gem.
