Rick and this family owned and run flight training outfit are top notch. This is no fly-by-night crew simply building hours, Arctic Flyers offers real word experience for the benefit of every student. There is no substitute for the practical real world experience to be shared and benefit it has given me with regard to all aspects of aviation. If you want to invest you, your family’s safety or your career to aviation this is the place to start. Or go ahead and try anyone another outfit however you’ll never know what you’re missing. I always felt safety came first with Rick and that has followed me in all my aviation endeavors.

Rick and Heidi (now retired) have been providing flight instruction for decades. I have been a student of theirs from my private to commercial ratings. Flying with Rick will prepare you to handle just about anything. Rick has the experience of a career flight instructor, flying professionally himself and working for the FAA. I earned my private pilot’s license in 1995 with Arctic Flyers. I flew with both Rick and Heidi, who both are exceptional instructors. They are very thorough on the ground and in the air, 30 years later I can hear their voices in certain, unusual situations. Both are great about extrapolating a seemingly routine flight into another scenario, which has been very valuable in my experience. I also got my float rating from them and Heidi did my FAA check ride. I started training in March & was licensed July 10 in my PA12 on floats! Highly recommend Arctic Flyers.

Rick Ruess is a top notch instructor with years of experience and unlike a lot of instructors out there, flight instruction is his passion and he’s not teaching to build hours and move on. If you want to learn to fly and become one of the best and most competent pilots, learn from Arctic Flyers. I learned to fly years ago from both Heidi and Rick. They prepare you for all flying conditions you would expect in encounter. I especially appreciated their mountain flight training and they even lined me up to take an aerobatics lesson, not to fly aerobatics but to train you how the plane feels and reacts to odd angles (and how to level and right the plane). They are the best in Alaska, I highly recommend them.
