I went to BHC about a year and a half ago. The people there were amazing, and so helpful. I had to travel about two hours to get there, but it was the best thing I’ve done to help my mental health. I still have my recovery book for those rougher days. Because of them and the counseling I had after getting released, I am in a much better head space. Thank you, BHC!

Please do not sent your teen to this facility. Staff - especially Charge Nurses and others, are abusive, judgmental, and lazy creating a non therapeutic environment. Administration has been told, but turn a blind eye. If this were a federal agency, DOGE would shut it down!

BHC is subpar at best. They have you attend group meetings where they tell you that the cornerstones of good mental health are good sleep and wholesome nutrition. During one of these same meetings, they advised the patients to avoid caffeine as part of their recovery. Then they went ahead and refilled everyone's big gulp sized Coca-Colas upon request, fed us cardboard, placed me in a room next to a large metal clanking door that they opened and closed all night long, and opened and closed my loud bedroom door every 15 minutes at night while shining a large light in my eyes. During the day, there was only one room to congregate in where a tv was constantly playing movies. And we all know that there's no correlation between screentime and poor mental health.

"Surprisingly," I ended up having to be hospitalized again within weeks. But I swore I would not go back to BHC. So we drove down to Huntsman in SLC where they didn't open and close our doors at night, shined a very small flashlight in the room to check on us, provided us with eye masks to block out the flashlight and hallway light, and fed us very delicious food. There were multiple rooms to hang out in, including quiet spaces. Instead of briefly meeting with one doctor every day, I met with a team of individuals led by a psychiatrist every day for an hour. It was not a perfect experience, but it was easily 30 times better than BHC. Lastly, Huntsman billed my insurance less than half what BHC did and I was there longer.

I have to say this place was awful. First of all I got to speak to an actual doctor for a total of about 15 minutes over the several days I was here. It didn't feel like he was listening to me AT ALL and he just immediately put me on some medication. I did not know what it was and had to ask several people several times before someone gave me an answer. Second the staff did not intervene at all when they walked in on patients crying, having panic attacks etc. There were multiple times I stepped in and talked to patients who were sobbing in the common area in front of the entire staff for extended periods of time because no one who worked there seemed to care. Some of the staff were friendly but most spoke to me in a completely disrespectful way that made me feel stupid and belittled. The worst part is, I had a weird reaction to the medication I was put on, which made me incredibly manic. I was up pacing around and did not sleep for two nights, and at one point I walked in circles around a table for what must have been an hour. After all this they felt like I was perfectly fine to go home and when they told me so, I had a mental breakdown and told them I was scared to go home because I didn't feel safe with myself, and they told me I was fine and then handed me a stack of paperwork to fill out before I left. I was having an incredibly difficult time filling out said paperwork and the doctor just kept harassing me about it and telling me I needed to get it done, offering no assistance. In the end I left with little to no help for the way I was feeling and a 36,000 dollar bill. The only things I actually learned from this experience all came from talking with other patients. I waited over a year before leaving this review because I thought I may have been being dramatic or not seeing things clearly, however I am still completely unimpressed with my experience and especially the staff.

Not the absolute worst mental hospital ive ever been in but definitely not great. Pros : the food was really good, teaches dbt skills, my mom said they called and updated her often cons: staff did nothing about me being bulied and threatened due to me being a trans man, some staff are rather rude, schedule felt a bit overwhelming, and was a pretty overstimulating environment ( as an autistic man )

I had written a review when I was released from admission in March 2023 but retracted it because I haven’t been able to pay off the 3,000 dollar bill I owe yet. However, a year later I am still passionately repulsed by my experience here and want people to not make the mistake of dismissing the reviews as I did. I was in a low place and gave it the benefit of the doubt that places like this have bad reviews because they deal with people who are mentally ill. I implore you, that is not the case and can say from experience that every person who left a negative review, is speaking with full mental clarity. I am almost certain this place would have a malpractice lawsuit on their hands if they didn’t have the capacity of gaslighting people because of the misconception. They take no accountability for their negligence and respond to reviews by feeding into this idea. But here’s the empirical evidence of why this place is bad, going from least egregious to most. First and foremost, if religious persecution is a root source of your unhappiness (as it is for many people with sexual identity issues) do not go here. The staff is 90% LDS and extremely judgemental. I find it impossible to believe that they don’t let these religious biases get in the way of their diagnoses, since the church leaders have a whole have a prescribe Jesus first mentality then if you have a faith crisis you have a real issue on your hands. They talked to patients with condescension and disrespect and did not supply me with the materials I needed for the program until the last day. In fact I wasn’t informed of any of that upon admission, just treated like an idiot when I was being quizzed and recorded on my progress in a recovery pamphlet that I didn’t receive. If they had any iota of patience, we could have clarified my confusion, and I could have received the study materials much quicker, but they wrote me off immediately. When I actually had the book their questions made sense but only in retrospect. Mind you this superiority complex is coming from people who frequently failed to properly check your vitals by putting the equipment on wrong even though they did it probably 100 times a day and told me to stand up when I was about to faint from low blood sugar from the malnourishment that came from the terrible food. (I don’t think I need to clarify this because even laymen know you are not supposed to make someone stand when they are about to faint but instead ease them to the ground, I fear for how they might handle someone having a seizure) Most nights I couldn’t sleep because I was supplied with a thin blanket that resembled cooking parchment paper and never given another upon request. You don’t meet with the psychiatrist for more than an hour and if you are admitted on the weekend good luck because if you have an adverse reaction to the drugs you are forced to take you won’t be able to change until they come in Monday (if they do). I overheard nurses talking about how they were using AI to complete their homework, which while not really any of my business kind of leads me to an impression of general incompetence. When I left my skin was clammy and my pupils were huge. I couldn’t eat for days. I’m pretty sure they released me with serotonin sickness. (I have diagnosed borderline personality disorder and admitted myself during an episode) The most therapeutic benefit was the trauma bonding I experienced with the other patients and the workshops were okay. I’m not sure if it’s just this facility or these kinds of facilities in general but this did certainly more harm than good and hopefully in the future one facility will set a breakthrough precedence for the way we approach mental health but at this rate, I doubt it will be this one.

My family member left there with duscharge paper ( after a suicide attempt) that stated there was appointments made for her this. For counseling for psychotropic review, and for physicians. NONE OF THIS WAS DONE . Didcharge. In the facility they played games no counseling this place is a joke!!
