I get to be a weekly presence in a child's life who lost their dad in the past year. I simply show up at his school, am welcomed by the staff, and spend lunch with my Little over a game like Uno; I know my Little loves the time we have together! I believe this organization is doing great things, and even when challenges arise (like did last year during my match) they work with you to make sure it is the best experience for all involved.

Please understand your child may be rejected into the program. Has I known that, I wouldnt have done the interviews and my child would not have got excited for something that isn't going to happen.

BBBS of SW Idaho is a fantastic organization, and has a wonderfully supportive team! They always help take care of any questions I or my Little has, and they've helped us make tons of new connections in ways I hadn't even anticipated. The support makes the process of becoming and maintaining a relationship as a Big super easy, fun and rewarding. As a Little myself when I was younger, getting to see the other side of the puzzle has been so rewarding for me - and it's clear to see that they all love doing what they do for the kids!

After two hours worth of interviews, multiple hours of completing assessments, and working on communication between other parties, and two months of waiting for quote “the right fit” I get a call, saying my kids are not going to be a part of this program to wait a year or two and come back later. A huge waste of valuable time when you have kids who struggle and need a mentor to help them in social situation. This program is a disgrace picking and choosing kids that are easy to deal with.

Super disappointed with this program. The previous Cordnator was really easy to work with then she left:(...

I joined the program after hearing an NPR interview on how the program was not just for at risk kids and thought the lesson on mentioning was important.. wanting my kids to be mentors in the future I thought it would be important for them to be mentored. Both kids had been matched for about six months before covid and things where going well.

During covid as other families we decided to limit our family’s contact with everyone outside of our home for the safety of our kids. Both the bigs agreed and felt like it was a good idea to wait until everyone was vaccinated before returning to regular visits. We had meetings and it was my understanding we would continue to be patient follow the CDC direction and priorities the safety of everyone.

Then out of the blue I received a “letter” (no phone call no further discussion nothing!!!) that both matches where closed!

This lack of communication with the case Cordernator is so disrespectful to myself, my kids and their bigs!

The irony is I probably have spent more time and energy jumping through meaningless “check in” over the last year with the Cordnator than my kids have spent with there bigs.. huge pain and TIME SUCK for me.. but the expectation was that we would wait till it was safe.

I have been reassuring my kids that we will be patient and when it’s safe they can have contact.. the idea of letters or email from their bigs was not something we did not encourage due to it just being a reminder of what they could not do... spend time together... we all agreed (bigs, kids, parents and the BBBS Cordnator) and that is what frustrates me.

This world pandemic with millions of deaths has impacted us all and that is something I can’t control however the disappointment from their experience with BBBS and being BLINDSIDED is something I felt I did have partial control of and spent allot of energy maintaining just another hit for them that I spent ALLOT of energy trying to balance...

I am VERY DISAPPOINTED With the BBBS and especially the case Cordnator...
