I don't normally do reviews. But my child was here for a year. We had to leave due to severe anxiety and depression issues (which she never had before even at a large high school in a different state). Academically the school is ok. The teachers are variable - there were some great teachers and some not so great. Likely true of any large high school. It is very difficult to make friends here, and there is a distinct element of classism and racism. My child had to listen to racist jokes on the bus, went through a bomb threat and tried to join clubs but most of the clubs on the website either don't exist in reality or are a front. We were told how friendly the school is and the kids look out for one another - that is a lie. I can understand the anxiety and depression comments. My child is doing much better in a different school where they actually do care about the kids and teachers know the kids they teach.

My review is based ONLY on the atmosphere I feel when visiting as a parent. I cannot speak to the atmosphere in individual classrooms, but I have visited the main office, the attendance office, and the academic counselor's offices many times. The atmosphere is always genuinely relaxed. If they were struggling to give the office an appearance of a relaxed feeling, I wouldn't be fooled. It has been genuinely friendly. I'm not talking about American, superficial politeness. I don't mean the fakey, hypocritical stuff people put on in public. I mean that the sweetness and kindness with which staff receives parents is real. It's part of who they are as people. It's a joy to interact with good, old-fashioned, awesome Texans whenever I have to pop in at the school. Makes me proud to live in the district.

This school is not great at all. I went here for 2 years and got bullied a lot. i suffer with severe depression and anxiety and i went for help and all they did was send me home. Like how does that help? Oh yea you will get bullied if you are middle class or lower.

Buron Nelson is turning over in his grave. He was a class act. Parents and coach of the jv baseball team should be embarrassed at themselves. You act like spoiled rich kids. How dare you scream at our children like you did...and the coach openly screaming at his second baseman across the field. These are young teenagers trying to find themselves. This is what you are teaching them as a way to conduct youselves. Take a look in the mirror.
