I'm very fortunate to have been referred to CHAPCA. There was hospice fraud on mom's Medicare account, it froze all of her Medicare benefits, and all procedures, even routine check-ups were denied. Sheila Clark stepped in to help me. When something like this happens, you don't know where to start, other than to report it to Medicare, and many times the representatives don't have answers for you, so you find yourself calling multiple times, repeating your story. Sheila helped me by contacting the appropriate agencies that deal with this type of fraud, she also advised me on other steps I needed to take.
With Sheila's help, I had a better understanding of the process that was taking place during the fraud investigation, and my anxiety level was tremendously diminished. Most people are not aware of how rampant hospice fraud is, until it happens to them, nor are they aware that non-profit agencies like CHAPCA exist. Words cannot express how grateful I am.

The California Hospice and Palliative Care Association is committed to improving access to quality hospice and palliative care services for all Californians. Caring for a loved with a serious illness can be overwhelming and it can be difficult to know who to turn to for help, however CHAPCA can help patients and families connect with quality providers in their communities. In addition, they offer several resource guides on a variety of topics that can be accessed on CHAPCA's website.

My husband has a terminal illness, and we have been trying to find out about Palliative Care. I am lucky to have found CHAPCA, and had the opportunity to speak with Sheila, who took time on several occasions to help us and answer my questions about Palliative Care. Up until then, we were getting various versions of what it is, and who can get a referral. She has pointed us in the right direction, and given me a lot of support in an unfamiliar territory.
