Ordered almost $14,000 worth of hardwood floors from this company. California Classics - Mediterranean collection was the product. The sales reps were aggressive and pushed an order in the month I first inquired recommending a quick decision so I could take advantage of a special discount. Turns out the discount was for multiple months and I had plenty of time.

The color we wanted was Kazala and it was apparently on back order. It was only back ordered a few months, however, but the sales rep scared us out of the choice by saying things could change. The sales rep also said the manufacturer recently changed the formula for another color in the same collection called “Sargon” to be nearly indistinguishable from the color we wanted (which was called Kazala). The sales rep said Sargon was the most popular color they offer and they’ve never had a complaint. I am 99% sure that was a blatant lie.

When all 65 boxes arrived of course the color Sargon was not even close to Kazala but this distributor does not accept returns. We had no choice but to use them with the budget we had for our house remodel.

Also, we ordered 65 boxes and 9 boxes had boards that were badly warping. These boards were literally curling. You could not even glue them down. Thankfully we didn’t need everything we ordered - my carpenter made miracles happen with the good boards we had.

I am writing this review to warn others of the shady sales tactics used by this company. We absolutely hate these floors. And it would cost $30-40k to replace them.

Remodeling is a very tough thing to do — you will be lied to and taken advantage of. Don’t let this company screw you over. Buy locally if you can and order 1 box to test before making a big purchase. It’s worth an extra $1,000 or $1,500. Would leave a 0 star review if I could.

I am writing a 2nd review to address a few problems I had with this supplier in more detail, and to dispute the owner’s clever response to my first review (which misconstrued my experience and did not address some of this company’s unethical behavior)

The sales rep did urge me to place the order by the end of the month to take advantage of the manufacturer’s discount and the owner pretends to not know their largest supplier (he admits this collection is their best seller) would be running the discount for many months in the future, but I’ve worked for one of the largest building product manufacturers in the country and I understand how these programs work. I should really call the manufacturer to ask them what the exact window of the promotion was (or have my lawyer do it). Notice the owner says all promotions are subject to change and that may be legally true as supplier agreements are written carefully but morally it is not the truth or the reality - the owner knew the discount would go on for months.

The owner also claims that they accept returns for 21 days but that was never communicated to me. In fact the sales rep said they will absolutely not accept returns for any reason at any time because the hardwoods are stored in temperature controlled environments and every box is inspected before being shipped. Which is also interesting since 9 of the boxes had fully curled boards and we had them stored in a temperature controlled environment from the day they were delivered up until the day we started install (from delivery to day 1 of install was about 18 days).

Also, 21 days in the remodeling industry is a pretty small window and if you’ve ever remodeled a house you know it’s just not worth the extreme hassle to make a change order, especially when you’re told returns aren’t accepted for any reason (and you made the mistake of ordering from a supplier that is not local)

Now to the biggest unaddressed problem: why did the sales rep tell me the manufacturer reformulated a color that was not on back order (Sargon) to be indistinguishable from the color we wanted to buy (Kazalla)? We saw Kazalla in a friend’s home and loved it. But we were encouraged to swap it for Sargon since it wasn’t on back order and it was “basically identical”. Also the sales rep said Sargon (the color) was the best selling color in the entire Mediterranean collection. Not that the Mediterranean collection was the best selling line from the manufacturer, California Classics. Now maybe the sales rep misspoke but the owner certainly misconstrued what I described in my experience (in my first review) to make others question the credibility of my review.

Finally, it has indeed been almost 2 years since this order. And every time I have swept my floors over the last year and a half I’ve thought to myself, “what a suspicious experience that was”.

Like the owner of this business I am also a busy, hardworking person. I go to work 7 days a week. And up until this past month I simply did not have the time to “dig-in” deeper. But then last week I received a box of the color we wanted, Kazalla, and guess what? It looks absolutely nothing like Sargon.

I will not be gaslit or accused of laziness and I encourage the owner to pull call transcripts if he does not believe me. I will probably file a complaint with the BBB and with any other website this company generates leads from with the hope that it helps someone avoid a similar situation as mine.

I believe unethical behavior should be combatted and I can sleep at night knowing I wrote a truthful review of a bad experience.

What an amazing company! Not only were the staff friendly and knowledgeable, but they were a great help in finding an expert installer for the Luxury Vinyl Plank we ordered. We will definitely shop at Corona Hardwood again!
