I was a paying member for several years. When I needed advocacy, I was assigned a representative who was surprised at every step of the process by the mistreatment I received by my district, but offered zero solutions or real support. At the end of the day, it was my membership with ATPE that ended up offering me EXPERIENCED guidance and advice beyond "gee, I really don't understand why this is happening to you." Ed Austin has political agendas and advocate collectively, but when it comes for individual advocacy, your membership is worthless.

When we relied on them most, they let us down. The organization is uninterested in supporting campuses in need and prefers instead to pursue the personal political agendas of its officers. Sadly, a prime example of why unions, while a grand idea, simply do not work.
