I would give this company a 1/2 star if I could. There are some great ppl, but there are also some bureaucrats who seem to find it amusing that I’ve been locked out of my account. I have tried logging on on my pc (which is a brand new macbook) my parents’ pc, my iphone, my ipad, and my brother’s iphone. No matter what I do (I have cleared the cookies on all), I am prevented from logging in. Caitlyn (Kaitlyn?) and Jenia have been incredibly rude, suggesting it was the devices I’m using.

When I challenged them, they threatened me never to contact me again. I asked them for a number to call, and they told me I could google it myself. Due to a serious accident resulting in a surgery costing upwards of $10,000 (with insurance I pay for myself), I was unable to get a part time job this summer, and as a result, I am in desperate need of working. Cait/Kaitlyn and Jenia seemed determined to do whatever it takes to prevent me from working, and they even went as far as to threaten me not to contact them again (probably because they just don’t know how to help me). Unless the issue is swiftly resolved (I’ve been working on this for a month now, I will probably miss at least a month of subbing, which is ~$3000 I could have made but was prevented from doing so. I don’t have this kind of money sitting around, and I expect better from ESS. This is - simply put - inexcusable. I am writing to see if there is a tech support person I could call, instead of having to seal with people whose only response is “this is your problem”…despite me NEVER having problems last year.

If I could I'd give 0 stars. Substitute teachers do not get paid enough for half and full day to deal with some of the most disrespectful children ever. And when you try and get staff help, they send the child right back to the class to disturb again. When I had death in the family twice, ESS area managers did not care that I was grieving and still decided to come to deal with these children even though I had been crying all day while at work. It got brushed off with no freaking sympathy or empathy at all. Ever issue I had that I called about didn't even get handled. The pay wasn't enough to deal with the staff, some of the children or some of these unprofessional principals. But apparently I must have been good because I'm still getting emails from principals begging me to come to their schools.

As a substitute, this is not the place to work for. For they do not provide the following:
- Have your back
- Clear details on assignments
- Clead details on pay. Especially if the school says substitute $130 per day but you worked a half day and only get half pay minus deduction
- Students can make up accusations against you and the company will ask you how you can do better for the students.
- Schools can call in and knit pick about what they do not like about you and you will be “banned” from
Returning to work at that school
- They don’t tell you about half days. They just have assignments out there for full days and then once you get there, you work a half day. But the other half the school will assign you to be a janitor, day care worker and more. And you can’t argue with the school About it because ESS will say whatever the school Needs you for, that’s you do.

It’s a lot working for them and not worth the pay and the pay structure.

I wish I could give -5 stars. This company seem nice and pretends to care, but when life knocks you down they throw you to the curb. The pay is low and ESS doesn't protect you like they say during training. I wasted so much time at this company. Time to move on.

If you want to become a substitute teacher for DCPS then you'll need to register with them. The trainers are awesome.
