I had BT there in August '72. The heat and humidity made it difficult to wear the starched shorts and very starched skirts(they had to stand up on their own)..i was in Fox Trot Co(we called it F Troop)..my DS was 5'1 but was a true DS..we had to move to another empty barracks midway through BT to make room for a new bunch if recruits..she showed us a quick and easy way to strip builtup wax on the floor in 30 min using Tide detergent..never used Tide after that..i was very glad to graduate and leave for Ft Sam...we used to call what few guys stationed there "trees" because they would stand behind them then jump out when we walked by

Basic Training July 77 - September 77 last company of WACs. First females to qualify with M16 and hand grenades. Next cycle to come through was supposed to be coed. DS McCurdy. Guard duty at ammo dump with the goats running around at night.
Just loved the gas chamber one more exposure to the chemicals. Wonder what they used to exfoliate the trees while we were there. Could it have been Agent Orange
Years after I left Monsanto settled with the city of Anniston for polluting the city for decades with PCBs.
If you were at Fort McClellan that was a different story, claims denied for illnesses linked to PCB contamination.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the settlement and Anniston is still considered Toxic.

When I was at Fort McClellen I learned about the Army. I had a huge crush on my Drill Sargent.
Fort McClellen was beautiful.
They take you out on hike,that night it rained on us.

I recently attended training at the old USA base - Ft. McClellan. The class was hosted by the CDP. The CDP did a good job converting Ft. McClellan into a federal training facility. The room that I stayed in was clean and maintained. Since it is a retired military base the bathrooms are "jack and jill" style. The bathroom was cleaned daily and well stocked. The only complaint that I have about the housing building is that the thermostat was locked. Having control of the thermostat would have been nice. The entire week I was there I sweated while I slept. It was between 10-12* hotter in the room I was staying in vs my bedroom at home. (God Bless people who are here in the summer - yuck.) The food at the chow hall was good. The staff was friendly and accommodating in the chow hall. They worked quickly and got a lot of people through in a short amount of time. If you go hungry that's on you. The transportation staff was friendly, prompt, and well organized. The instructors were well versed in their craft(s) and provided a lot of useful knowledge. I would attend training here again. I would recommend training at this facility also.

I arrived at Ft. McClellan in July of 1984 and assigned to E11 MP Co for OSUT. It was the roughest, yet most rewarding experience. DSGTs Larson and Nieves were our drills. OMG, I can still hear the metal trash can tops clanging!

I trained and became friends with a great group of young ladies. Six of us became road guards during marches cand called ourselves the Road Guard Rangers. ? There were two older women in their 30s who just made the age cutoff. They were phenomenal! They shared some wisdom and kept a few of us out of trouble.? I wonder where they all are now? Great memories.

The WAC Museum was there. Man, to see the history of women in the Army was amazing. The MP Museum was also there. I guess I have to go to Ft. Lost in the Woods to visit those museums now. #roadtrip
