I love the convenience and low cost. But I asked a driver to take me less than 1/8 a mile off the route up my rd, as I have trouble walking and had a heavy rolling bag filled with items I purchased from the store I needed to get uphill to my driveway. He said he couldn't. He said only certain lines are allowed to do that. I could literally see my home from where he dropped me off at the bottom of the hill (which I mentioned to him as I struggled to get my heavy bag off the bus).
When I looked up the Graham Transit online, it Plainly states that the drivers will go up to a mile off their routes for ALL passengers. The last time we used this bus line, the driver was happy to take us to our driveway.
Because this driver would not take me further, it took me 10 minutes, falling 4 times, to get the short distance up my rd to my home. My fiance thankfully seen me fall the fourth time and, even though he has muscular dystrophy, came down to where I was sitting in the road, hurting and dizzy, to help me up and to help with the groceries.
I hate to give a terrible rating because of one driver, when the last one we rode with was very nice and professional. That is why I gave it 3 stars instead of 1. However if this happens again, I will have to change my rating.
We are fairly new to the area, and it was apparent that the drivers know the other passengers. We only have needed to use the bus because our car broke down. I understand that I am not a regular rider. I understand I did not have my cane or walker with me, as one was taken by someone and the other is broken, so I may not have "seemed disabled" to him. I am simply not sure why the Bluefield website says the driver will detour from the route for All passengers, if that is not the case.
In my opinion, whether a passenger is a regular who is known to the driver, or a disabled person they've never seen before, like myself, I feel that all passengers should be treated the same.
