Key Features and Specialties

\n\n

The Hidden Canyon Retreat primarily operates as a motel, providing guest rooms as its core service. Reviews consistently highlight the comfort and cleanliness of the accommodations, with guests frequently expressing satisfaction with the room quality. The motel's location itself is a significant draw, situated within a beautiful and tranquil area known for its natural surroundings, which includes scenic views and, as mentioned by one reviewer, the sight of deer grazing nearby.

\n\n

Customer service is another area where the retreat excels, with guests appreciating the friendly demeanor of the staff, particularly during the check-in process. The retreat offers a sense of community or supplementary activities, referencing \"marketplace tokens\" which guests find generous. While the specific nature of these tokens isn't detailed, they seem to be part of a unique experience offered beyond standard motel amenities, adding a layer of local flavor or activity.

\n\n

A crucial aspect highlighted by reviews concerns the access route. Guests are advised to be prepared for a 7-mile dirt road that leads to the retreat. While some reviews note that this journey, especially at night or after physical exertion like hiking, can be challenging, it's also presented as part of the experience. The check-in process is another feature discussed. One guest noted a slight preference for a more seamless integration between the check-in and the main hotel experience, but overall found this to be a minor inconvenience. I don't have many complaints. Great comfortable rooms. Gorgeous setting.
Kind reception when checking in. The marketplace tokens are pretty generous.
The deer grazing nearby!

The only thing I'd warn is to be truly be prepared for that 7 mile dirt road. We arrived at night and driving that road at night wasn't fun.
After a long day of hiking also, that drive back that road isn't exactly inviting.
But the owners make sure you're well aware of the road in advance through email.

I don't love that the check-in is separate from the hotel either but that's small potatoes.

...in the best sense. Remote and largely quiet - not much the Retreat can do about noisy brats. Dark skies were exactly as anticipated. Very helpful location/facilities guidance prior to the drive up from Eureka/Ely. They have an arrangement with the cafe at Great Basin NP to enable use of their breakfast/shop tokens at the cafe in the park ahead of the first cave trip in the morning. Just be aware of the dirt track approach!

If you are visiting Great Basin National Park, Hidden Canyon Retreat is the best place to stay in. The room is spacious, the kitchen is clean and equipped with everything you need to prepare your meals. The food market has all necessary items you need. The prices are very reasonable. We enjoyed the stargazing at the end of the day. Christina the owner was very helpful and accommodating. Too bad it was only one night for us., but we will be back.

Hidden Canyon Retreat is in a very remote, isolated location, but not far from Great Basin National Park and the town of Baker, Nevada. It is very peaceful and scenic. Our room was first rate, nicely decorated and furnished. There is no restaurant, but plenty of food items are available in the office, if you want to make something in the room. And there is a good restaurant in Baker. This part of the country is a dark sky area. If you want to star gaze at night, this is a great place to stay. My wife and I loved this place and would love to stay there again.

Great retreat. Has everything needed in an area that offers very little due to its remote location. Comfy bed, plenty of room in suite, kitchenette, pool, hot tub, game room, a market with a huge variety. Long dirt road to access but it was very easy to navigate. Saw deer, turkey and a ringtail cat around the resort. It is the best option in the area.

This is definitely off the beaten path, but it was a great experience! I wish they would pave the road leading to the hotel, but maybe that's part of the experience! It's a very well maintained road. We made it fine, and there was someone else there who had made it in a Chevy Malibu. It's not a washboard road at all. There are a few downhill switchbacks at the end, but we had no problem going up or down them. The front desk employee was very pleasant and helpful. The rooms were outstanding and the beds were so comfortable. We enjoyed spending time in the hot tub and walking around the property. You get meal tokens for each person staying worth $7 each. You can either buy something in their little store or get a bagged breakfast. It was incredible looking out at the stars once the sun went down. All of the people staying there were very respectful of quiet hours. Our family got such good rest! Another bonus is that it's all one level, so you never hear anyone walking any upper floors! There are 12ish rooms total, so that helps control the crowds for each night. We loved this place!

Absolutely perfect stay. This reminded us of a European family hotel! The whole property was amazing. Rooms were phenomenal. Our king bed was so comfy. Amenities are unmatched. We loved the pool and hot tub and family game room. Deer and wild turkeys roam the property. It’s stunning at night! The staff was top notch. From check in to service staff- we could not have been happier. The tokens for their shop (3-9pm) were perfect. It’s about 15 minutes off the main road- but not hard at all to find or get to! Perfect spot for Great Basin! You’d actually never even need to leave the property to have a great vacation. Our kids loved it! We will return!

This property is in a fabulous location and has all the amenities you could want. The rooms are large, ours had 2Q beds, 2 chairs, and a table with 4 stools. The table was pushed against the wall, but there was plenty of room to pull it out to the center of the room and easily seat 4 people around it. There was an open closet near the entry door with hangers and a shelf. An extra floor lamp and a broom were also here. We put the luggage stand in this area for our luggage. There was a large TV on the wall. It didn't face the beds, but it was easy to see from the table and one of the beds. It could be seen from the other bed, but not as well. The unit was exceptionally clean.|The kitchen surprised us with everything it had. There was a large toaster oven to use for baking, a microwave, a toaster, a small refrigerator, and a large electric induction cooktop. A Keurig coffee maker with a large selection of coffee was a nice addition. There were plenty of utensils, dishes, glasses, cooking pans, silverware, and also detergent, dish towels and paper towels.|The bathroom had a large vanity area with one sink, a large mirror and great lighting. The shower contained soap, conditioner, and shampoo. There was plenty of Kleenex and extra toilet tissue. The toilet and shower were in an alcove off the sink area. Lots of towels were provided and we never ran out of hot water for our showers.|The units were arranged in a horseshoe with a lovely grassy area in the center and a lovely canyon view at the end.|Outside was a seasonal pool, year round hot tub, grill for barbecuing, and also an area to play horseshoe. There was plenty of grassy area for kids to play and also a game room for the family to enjoy.|At the far end of the property was the office and store. Christina was fantastic, both friendly and helpful. The store had an amazing assortment of food: ice cream, fresh fruit, cereal, frozen dinners, frozen meat, canned goods and much more. |Breakfast was done differently and was a great idea. You could either order a sack breakfast which was delivered the the night before or you could get a token worth money to spend at the store on anything you wanted. This system worked very well, especially since the store had so much to choose from.|The property was located at the bottom of a remote and beautiful valley. When I say remote, I mean remote. Make sure you follow the directions sent to you, as they are easy to follow. Some GPS systems get it wrong in this remote area. The 7 mile gravel road you turn onto is wide and well maintained. Hidden Valley Ranch is at the end of the road, you can't miss it. The instructions say you will "drop down into the canyon" and that's exactly what you do. When you first turn onto Big Wash Canyon Road it is sagebrush and scrub. But eventually you "drop down into the canyon". The road drops quickly with several hairpin turns. But don't worry, the road is wide enough to easily make these turns. You'll turn right once you pass the Hidden Valley Ranch sign to check-in at the store (open 3-9p when we were there). You'll meet Christina who will explain everything and check you in.|Pets are welcome for a fee and the area is known for its fantastic night sky (and it is fantastic).|You can cancel 5 days prior for a refund (7 days on holidays and special events).|You'll love it here! It is a wonderful place to stay.
