Attended a class in june and july 1992 to improve my English after leaving school in Germany and preparing for TOEFEL. It was an outstanding experience and I still keep contact with other students from all over the world as well as with the resident assistants from Pitzer at that time! All very well organized and I really recommend!

I have been taking classes with this school for the last three years. I came in knowing some Spanish but wanted to improve my conversational skills. This has been a wonderful learning experience. I have had classes led by the director Nuria and by several other instructors. All are Latin Americans so we can learn about and discuss the culture as well as the language. Instructors are very aware that the classes sometimes have students with different levels of Spanish. They reach out and are sure that students at every level get a good learning experience. All of the instructors. have always been polite, professional, and competent in their interactions with me. My Spanish has greatly improved in my time in these classes.

First day of Spanish class, & the substitute teacher informs us that the teacher is out of the country for the 1st & 2nd Saturday of a 7 Saturday class. She never informed the parents to leave or to stay, so quite a few parents decided to stay there towards the back. There was at least 6 adults aside from the teacher just sitting in along with their kids for the remainder of the class in what is supposed to be at max capacity classroom already just based on the kids. The Spanish substitute teacher did very minimal translation for the student in the class, to which I ended up staying due to the lack of common sense that these kids have no idea what she’s saying. As a Spanish native speaker I decided to stay because the kids including mine needed help with directions. I ended up helping half of the class (including my kid) in a class I am paying for them to teach my child Spanish. Make that make sense. The substitute teacher played YouTube videos for the 95% of the class while they were told to color. They repeated some words in unison here and there, but they were just mostly coloring while watching YouTube videos. There was supposed to be an aide there allegedly, but I ended up being the aide helping kids with the directions, finding their papers, picking up fallen materials, and translating things they did not understand which was everything. As a paying parent of this class I thought it was terrible. So I called the director Nuria Fortier thinking she would have some insight on why today went the way it did. Well, unfortunately Nuria was not understanding. She was speaking over me and was very defensive (which I understand, it’s her institution & her name on the line) however, she was not there as she told me that herself. She was not there for the 1st day of the program. She assured me the aide was there and I told her “no she wasn’t & if she was (which I hope she really wasn’t) it looks way worse on her part bc if she was in the class, she did NOTHING.” The substitute teacher had her kids helping with the computer & half of the class because like I said, I had the other class already covered. Nuria continued to make claims that the aide was there and continued to raise her voice and talk over me. She also said that they usually don’t allow parents to stay because of the obvious; it disrupts the flow of the classroom environment. That maybe the substitute wasn’t clear on the protocol & directions of how the classroom should be handled. Then I told her the amount of parents that stayed & I tried my best to guess their nationality. She then told me sometimes for the most part in her experience, the Asian parents always stay in class with their kids (I’m thinking it’s probably language barrier related, however, this institution teaches more than one language, so again make that make sense. Someone could’ve said something to them.) The fact that there’s more adults in the class than the teacher & nobody is getting ID-ed is crazy to me. I don’t think the parents who actually left their kids there thought that there were also going to be random adults who aren’t certified along with them in class. Anywho, it was horrible. I feel sorry for the substitute teacher (if she really is a substitute & a teacher at that) but it did not go well. I am more saddened and even more so aggravated that Nuria was not receptive of all the wrong things that went down today without her supervision. She decide to invalidate what I was telling her because “tHaT hAs NeVeR hApPeNeD bEfOrE… yadda yadda…sInCe 1991.” I had to repeatedly say “NURIA NURIA NURIA,” because she would not stop speaking over me. I told her she was not listening and that unfortunately what she had to say had no value to me because I was there doing the aides job & I was a paying parent. I was trying my best to keep my composure, but it was impossible. She asked me “well what do you want me to say.” Honestly, there was nothing for her to say, at the time I needed her to take responsibility as she is the only person to contact on file. She then proceeded to hang up on me. ?

I’ve been taking Spanish classes at this school for 4 years and have been very pleased with the instructors, the learning tools and the professionalism of this institution. The classes are fun and interesting and stimulating. I’m never disappointed. Even throughout Covid, the director made sure we were able to continue our classes on zoom so there was no interruption in our learning. I am particularly impressed that the director even offers a conversation group to provide students at ALL levels an opportunity to feel comfortable practicing what we are learning.
I hope to to have the opportunity to continue to challenge myself and improve my language studies at this wonderful school!! I would encourage anyone wanting to learn a foreign language to enroll. Don’t put it off!!

I have had a great experience with this language school as an adult learner. The Spanish classes are engaging and have a focus on learning about culture, in addition to language. The teacher is patient and they offer conversation classes, as well. It's a very welcoming place to brush up on or learn a new language.
