Worst experience of my life they kicked out 6 of the best teens to help out because they found a fun and entertaining game to play because they staff apparently can't to that for themselves and called it hazing. They also need to get their staff under control... there staff was making fun of one of the teens because she was by herself because they kicked her friends out and she got bullied BY THE STAFF to the point that she left the camp a day early. This camp is terrible don't send anyone you care about to this camp.

My son went as a camper last summer and had a blast. New staff this year and he returned as a first year junior councelor. On Wednesday my son and 5 other older (kids going into their senior year) junior councelors were sent home due to a perceived hazing/bullying incident. The staff could not provide any details regarding the incident. The boys were playing a game with the campers where if they "messed up" a rythem (tapping your legs) they would have to complete a challenge. (My son had to go to breakfast with bedhead). There was an adult councelor with them the night before that thought the game was great. The following day an uptight councelor felt the game was "hazing". Going up the chain of command led now where. No defined policies... clearly this staff member is very inexperienced. Later the same week another junior councelor called her parents to go home early ad she was being ridiculed by the staff for not having a swim suit. If anyone would like to see the emails with blowoff responses, feel free to message me directly. I would hold off sending kids there until they have some training and/or staff changes.

I remember this place as a kid. In the foster care system. They would pick us up downtown at the social service building. I mean it was a lot of kids on a charter bus. They tried hard to teach me how to swim, I still don’t know how to. lol! I loved the activities. I hated archery as well. I caught athletes foot from the James River, I still didn’t care. lol! The second year they separated my sis and I. I had to fend for myself. I met some really cool kids. I was super, I mean beyond super shy back then. Great camp back then!

I recently attended a private retreat at the Jamestown 4H for my martial arts family. The views looking out over the James River were immediately impactful. The facilities were clean and well maintained, and the staff assigned to provide meal and archery services was extremely friendly and knowledgable. (Shout out to Tango and Skittles for being especially awesome).

Went to 4H summer camp as a little girl. Twice. I can still see it in my mind's eye. Was this location. The best, most fun time and the memories are still vivid. Bunk beds in the cabin. Standing in line in the mess hall and the cold cold milk. Learning to canoe. Meeting new friends. Learning archery wasn't my thing. The excitement each day when I woke up in that top bunk bed, wondering what cool thing are we going to do today? Didn't even care that the cabin wasn't air conditioned. Was a wonderful time that made fantastic memories that have lasted decades as some of the best times of my childhood.

The Jamestown 4H staff is always a delight to work with and is responsive to our group's needs: Stephanie/Stoke and the rest of the crew! Our volunteers and campers love the bathrooms in the cabins. Everything is so centrally located and convenient and the view of the river is refreshing. Highly recommend this campsite!

I am basing my review off of one day of sending my kids to spring break day camp.

My kids were very disappointed in the day. They had advertised many outdoor activities but did not do any of them, they were only allowed to play on the playground or play inside. They were offered some string to make friendship bracelets with. They said they did take one walk to the beach but were not allowed to touch anything or take their shoes off. They were not taught anything about wildlife or outdoor skills. The whole day was just daycare. They said that the man even promised a fire with somores several times and then later said no I actually can't do that. The activities were not cancelled due to weather as it was a beautiful 74 degree day with no rain. I did not expect them to do all of the advertised activities in one day but I thought they would at least do one. There was no communication from staff that there was some reason for not doing much that day.

I am sure that this place can be awesome, they do have activities. My kids said they have archery equipment, they have a low ropes course, ECT.

My kids did say they would rather just go to a park with me so a win on that front!

Overall if you are in need of a place for your kid to go for a day just to be watched I would recommend the day camp spring break. But if you we're looking for an enriching day with lots of fun activities I would not recommend.
