December 2022 My son who was attending McCalla Elementary tried to take his own life due to the amount of bullying (verbally and physically) he had received while he attended school. He had to go evaluated by psych in the hospitaland now sees a therapist every week. I emailed MANY times to the principal Mrs Hayes for ALL affidavits my son filed in his cases of bulling. NEVER got any of them. I also emailed the super and stressed the issue. My son no longer attends and I have to enroll him in a virtual school because he is absolutely terrified to go back to school. He suffers with PTSD. Because of this I can no longer work which changes our family dynamic. This issue has caused so much harm to my family while the children who harmed my kids suffer nothing. In fact their way of handling the situation was to allow one of the kids who has consistently bullied him to SIT NEXT TO HIM IN CLASS!!!!! They forced these kids to "be friends." These people do not care about your children. IF they did - things would be different. I have my emails/paper trail. I have lawyers getting involved because the damage done and refusal to send information requested is NOT going to sit anymore. AVOID Jefferson County if you can!! I wish someone told us this before we moved. We are a military family and we had to move to AL due to my son's medical issues where he lost his right eye and has had to endure a lot. THIS SHOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE!!

City of Birmingham Schools have a more rigorous approach in teaching students, better curriculums, tutoring programs throughput the school year etc. vs. Jefferson County School system. Waste of taxpayers money.
