I’ve made numerous visits and discover something new each time. My favorite exhibits are the toys, saloon, and schoolhouse. The volunteers who manage the museum are gems for keeping history alive - so important! I HIGHLY recommend a visit.

Wow! I was amazed by the detail, flow, organization, and creativity the Johnson County Museum had to offer. I grew up in Tecumseh and thought I knew a lot about my hometown and surrounding areas, but I was wrong! The museum was carefully designed with some of the most unique artifacts and descriptions. I know a lot of the credit for the formation of the miniature exhibits can be credited to Sarah Williamson, but the entire Johnson county historical society and its members should be proud of their fine establishment. If you have any ties to Johnson county, you must visit! I will say the museum is closed from the months of December to April, but there was a note on the door to call to coordinate a time to view the museum. I called and Gina Doty was happy to come down and open the museum for us—within minutes of calling her! Talk about amazing service to compliment a fabulous business! I will go again, as they are always adding things! Thank you for adding such great value to my hometown!

Was chosen by the Smithsonian as part of their 2021 tour. A hidden gem, beautifuly done! 6 huge rooms to look at. Most of the buildings are from the 1880s. Over 100 mannequins dressed with period piece clothing. Newly restored late 1800 school house decorated like the late 1800s. Could literally spend hours in there and still not see or read everything. Been several times with new displays everytime. Part of the 2021 Smithsonian cross roads change in rual america display.
