[Texas’ Premier Training Academy]

KR Training is the BEST place to train. It is the oldest training facility in Texas, offers a diverse class schedule throughout the year, and employs many of the most experienced trainers in the country. Karl Rehn has done an excellent job assembling a talented team of instructors, and he went a step further by hosting special events for some of the biggest names in the industry. Class topics range from proficiency to law to tactics. No matter your skill level, beginner to expert, KR has the appropriate classes for you. If you are a beginner, be assured that you will be in a safe and encouraging professional environment. If you are at an intermediate, advanced, or expert level, be assured that you will be challenged to push your skill set further. KR Training exudes excellence.

TLDR;

If you are considering training here, stop hesitating and get to it.

Took two classes here - a private training with Karl and a tactical group class. By far the best shooting training you can get in central Texas.

Karl is a top notch instructor and will quickly tailor the training to what you specifically need to focus on. His training is the perfect balance of intensity and fun

My only regret is not coming here sooner - I had tons of bad habits that I needed to break first. Anyone on the fence about getting trained here, don't hesitate to reach out to Karl over email! He responds pretty quick and will get you the info you need

Our church’s safety team completed training at KR. The team is very knowledgeable and keeps the range safe at all times. I highly recommend firearms training at this business.

I highly recommend KR Training. I had done my homework in researching the background, and qualifications of different places to take classes and knew KR was the best choice. I expected knowledgeable instructors, and my expectations were met or surpassed. John, and the assistant trainers did a superb job. In addition to the commanding knowledge of the subject matter, John is an excellent teacher. He utilized strategies to enable students to comprehend and retain information that reached to all learning styles: visual, oral, tactile, etc. The classroom portions were energetic, the flow of information was well timed, the climate for learning was established and maintained whether in the classroom or on the range.

I was a classroom science teacher for 10 years, my masters is in education. I am subject to a lot of continuing education with licenses under Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation as well as the State Board of Educator Certification. So often the people with the most expertise have very little skill in imparting that knowledge. That is not the case with the staff at KR Training. On the range I received corrections and tips from all three of the assistants, the questions I asked were answered with comprehension of what I was asking and clear understandable answers. All the instruction met me at the knowledge and skill level I arrived with, and moved me toward the goal. I also found as I listened to the instruction being given to others who were experiencing difficulties or struggling with concepts, what they were doing well was a foundation for encouraging them to learn the next step.

After a full day of classes I had some questions about problems I was having with a different pistol than I had used that day. One of the trainers assisting, Ed, took extra time to help me further and quickly isolated the issue.

I have already signed up for my next class with KR, and am looking forward to getting my sons and college age daughter into these classes as soon as schedules allow. The states minimum proficiency and no practical physical or mental preparedness is not a high enough standard when it comes to my family. Thankfully I found KR Training.

I just took the Defensive Pistol -1 course a few days ago and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I was able to improve by the end of the session and I learned three areas that I need to focus on, in both in drying firing and at the range. This course was well worth the investment of time and money and I found Karl and his assistant, John, to be very knowledgeable and excellent trainers (and I used to head a training department). I would recommend anyone attend one of their classes and I will be back myself, both to repeat this class and to take others.

Edit: It's now been more than a year, perhaps two since I attended my first class described above. I've since attended several other classes taught or sponsored by KR Training. Medixcal, Mas Ayoob's Mag 20, Red Dot, and last week Karl gave me a private lesson to imrpove my grip. Today I live fired and the results were much improved over my last trip to the range. I highly recommend KR Training.

Attended Defensive Shotgun Essentials at KR Training in Lincoln today. Course was 4 hours for $100. Apart from LTC training, this is the first formal training I have ever attended.

TLDR - KR Training and their staff is phenomenal.

We started with basic information about range safety, medical etc. in the classroom and discussed defensive shotgun types, accessory pros and cons, and ammo. Very informative though I didn't necessarily agree with all of it (one trainer recommended no sling or light on a defensive shotgun which I found interesting, even though his logic on it was sound.)

After the classroom, we spent about 3.5 hours doing different drills, looking at patterning and working in a shoot house. As someone familiar with shotguns but new to any type of training, this was incredibly useful. I also discovered how much moving from "paper at the range" to "multiple tasks behind cover under time" changes things.

Key takeaways: Muscle memory is real. There was so much I fumbled with in this training and it made me realize how valuable repetition is.

Ammo matters. Low quality Academy buckshot vs. something like Federal Flite Control buckshot is eye opening.

I highly recommend KR Training. GOOD JOB at providing a course that is well worth the money.

I would go so far as to say that if you have your CHL and have not taken any continued education or training you're being irresponsible. Karl's defensive handgun course was awesome and allowed me to learn and practice using my personal handgun in a way most ranges won't allow the unsupervised public to do. The classes are insanely affordable and a complete no brainer to sign up for.

For me it was a great spot away from the hustle and bustle to relax and get some firearms and defensive training. I took a private lesson with Karl and it felt personalized and professional. I would totally recommend to anyone in the firearms world or someone who would just like to hone their defensive skills.
