I recently had the opportunity to take the train-the-trainer course. Having worked in law enforcement for nearly two decades, I’ve seen not only the push for more effective de-escalation techniques, but also various forms of training in this topic. This course is by far the most practical and effective. It applies the tactical principles of de-escalation, but builds on them by incorporating rapid personality trait identification and risk assessment. The combination allows officers to effectively make connections, establish rapport, and apply effective principles of persuasion. These skills provide officers practical tools and greater confidence and knowledge in handling confrontation situations. I am confident these tactics will decrease the number of incidents requiring use of force and help defuse more conflict situations that might otherwise have led to violence. I HIGHLY recommend this training for everyone in the law enforcement profession.
