The Rangers were friendly. The Visitor Center didn't have the sizes (XL) we needed in almost every shirt on display. We liked the short hike we were able to do, and appreciated that, even though the Loop Drive was closed to vehicles, it was open for us to walk on. The area is SO beautiful.

Recommend to stop here and talk to the rangers before exploring the national park. The rangers can provide you insightful information regarding what to do first depending on the visitor turnout of the day. The rangers also offer talks at various times of the day (make sure to check). The visitor center provides some exhibits and information regarding what you will see at the park. They also have a souvenir shop. Restrooms are located here and are very clean. Before you leave check out the map of where visitors have come from.

A must see! It is quite a drive from anywhere and then another 15 minutes past the first National Park sign, but it is a must do. Make sure not to turn around before the visitor center / gift shop. Then pay (if you have a National Parks Pass it will be free) to go thru the drive area ( will take about 30 minutes- and is within the park)

The Craters of the Moon National Monument is a unique place. It is the site of recent geothermal activity with beautiful lava formations and wildlife.

Great Place to get information and maps to view the Crater of The Moon Volcanic site. They also have a campground across the street. My husband and I did the easy hikes as it was so hot . It was busy but not overcrowded. Highly recommend!

We visited here in September. It’s a really good visitor center with all the usual facilities, such as loos and gift shop. The staff were great, really helpful and friendly.
There are no walks or hikes from here, but from the loop road there are loads. The caves are especially good, though the best ones are on the other side of the park. If you are feeling really adventurous and have a good 4x4, you can get to the back country from Minidoka There are some other lava caves here.
Staff gave us details on a few in the area. You basically need to drive up to Tree Moulds trail for the best hikes. But the Inferno Code trail gives some of the most awe inspiring views of the park.
Really good place to stop and have a break before doing the park.

This is a nice visitor center in the Craters of the Moon Park. The staff are friendly and they have a nice gift shop too. The building is clean and well maintained. The park is interesting and the lava fields are unique. They have easy walking trails .
