My instructor was Dennis during the 3 hour end-to-end lesson. He explained everything very well and his step by step process to teaching how to drive manual was fantastic. Could not recommend the service enough and if you can get Dennis as your instructor you are in great hands! After 2 hours I was more than confident in my abilities through Dennis' process that I was able to take to the road and not only had a blast but didn't stall once. It ended up being easier than I had thought it would be going into it, and I can in full confidence say that that is because of Dennis. If you want to learn how to drive manual, book an end-to-end with Dennis ASAP!

Dennis was my driving instructor, and I opted for the 3 hour lesson. Dennis explained all of the concepts of clutch control, upshifting, downshifting, and hill starts very well. I cannot express how much the lesson has helped me. It changed my life. I left the lesson much more confident in my ability to drive the manual car that I had recently bought. I now daily drive my manual car like a natural.

I cannot say enough about my experience with SHIFTR earlier today. David my instructor in Irvine, CA was top notch. Professional, kind, knowledgeable, and most of all a great communicator. I left my lesson feeling significantly more confident about my ability to drive a manual. The lesson was done on real roads, not a parking lot. At no point did I feel unsafe or intimidated. He walked me through several very clear and helpful lessons. I would recommend SHIFTR, and especially David as an instructor, to anyone. Thank you!

Alan is a great instructor. I have attended the 3hr class earlier this year. I was driving after day one. Then I purchased three extra one hour classes for mor experience. I am getting my first stick shift car in a few days 🙂

My instructor was David Kim. Very knowledgeable not just about driving a manual but also how the mechanics of a car works when it comes to a manual car. It did help to know what the different actions you're doing affects what in the car and how they sync together to get it moving.
Driving a manual requires you to rewire your brain to certain degrees because there are more things you need to pay attention to and consider. David is a very good instructor and able to explain everything. At the same time it also requires you to process what he's teaching you. It can be confusing for sure coming from driving an automatic for a long time but everything does make sense.
The biggest takeaway is that you'll understand what is required to drive a manual. The lesson will expose you to everything required to drive a manual, different scenarios and more. After the lesson it's up to you if you want to pursue driving a manual or not.

My girlfriend got me a gift card here for my birthday after I'd expressed an interest in learning stick for years, and it was such a great experience. David is a patient and knowledgeable instructor who clearly knows how to teach stick in a complete and calm way you'd never learn from being taught by a friend or family member. If you want to learn how to drive manual, I can't recommend this organization enough. Plus, they have locations all over California!

I highly recommend SHIFTR and have only great things to say. After the lesson I was more confident that I could buy a manual Miata and take it home.

David arrived on time and made me much more confident in buying a manual. He taught me clutch control, downshifting, upshifting, stopping (neutral/in gear), reversing, and hill starts. The driving areas were also well chosen to teach the basics, then reinforce the basics.
