To be honest, I was hesitant to take time out of my work week to attend the Workshop. I decided to go because I believe any chance to learn something from someone else is worth it. In the end, its was well worth it; I learned several ways to improve my business and many things to work on. I just attended an Aspire Institute workshop with Fred Farris. I was anticipating it to be an interesting and informative workshop but it turned out to be so much more than that. Fred, CEO of The Aspire Institute, is a skilled seminar leader, very personable, attentive to his audience and quite frankly, brilliant at what he does. He proved to be extraordinarily knowledgeable about all phases of the remodeling and construction industry. In fact, there does not appear to be any segment of the industry that he is not familiar with and can address regarding the multi-faceted, challenging and complex issues remodeling contractors and home builders face on a daily basis. I have found that often times those of us who have been in this business a long time and have achieved a certain level of success in our field still struggle with marketing, positioning and differentiating ourselves and our business, which prevents us from rising higher and achieving even more success. Going into this seminar I really thought that I had figured out exactly what I needed to do to rise to the next level in my remodeling business and that Fred's seminar would give me a few additional "tips" on how to get from "here" to "there" - but I was wrong. Fred Farris's Aspire seminar for GC's went way beyond what I imagined would be presented. I had no idea he would go into so much detail, (critically important detail), about profit margins, marketing strategies, business models, KPI Mapping, targeted lead generation and much, much more. During his presentation I noticed others around me (as well as myself) jotting down notes furiously, trying to keep up.
Bottom line, the Aspire Institute's seminar on "Where GC Profit Actually Comes From" is unlike any other seminar out there. It is revolutionary. It is mind-expanding. It is a master's level course for GC's on financial management, marketing systems and professional positioning - on steroids. I wish I would have known about and attended this business seminar years ago. If I had, I would most likely be a multi-millionaire by now and long retired.

I’ve been receiving coaching from Aspire for the last 5 years. At first I was worried about the cost but now I consider their services an absolute bargain. The whole staff is available, unified and on the leading edge of the construction industry. I became a licensed general contractor in 2006 and I can’t imagine where I’d be now if I’d had access to the aspire program when I first went into business. We joined Aspire Institute almost 5yrs ago as small, boutique, remodel contractor. For the better part of two decades, we were able to build outstanding projects as well as create and retain a loyal customer base. Despite our happy clients and quality work, we were, at best, a break-even business, year over year. We were tired of collecting friends and building nice projects without making, and retaining, money.

We attended a one-day Aspire recruiting event, held in a hotel conference room, in our area. I can’t think of many things that I am more skeptical of than hotel conference room recruiting events hosted by out-of-state companies whose promise is to improve your bottom line as a business. Despite this skepticism, I could not manufacture enough reasons to pass on the opportunity, and believe me, I certainly tried.

We decided to give the program a year. Along with this decision we committed, internally, to dedicate all of our efforts, and more, to change. This single decision was the silver bullet. It was, and continues to be, the catalyst that makes the outstanding program at Aspire work. We had never truly committed to change before as we had no road map to follow. We had done versions of the same thing over and over with the same results. We were tired of those results.

Today we are still a small, boutique, remodel contractor…. because that’s what we want to be. I think this is what I appreciate most about Aspire. Their program, while it has blanket applications to business overall, is wildly tailored for each specific company they coach.

At the beginning of the program, we were able to unroll our “building plans” for review by Aspire. It was a pathetic one-page plan set not suitable for bidding let alone building! Like any reputable builder/ consultant should be able to do, Aspire showed us why our plans were incomplete for building the exact type of business we wanted to build. They didn’t scrap our one-page plan and hand us a set for some spec house across the country. In fact, it was the exact opposite. Through one-on-one coaching (mostly from the talented Rory Fawley) we built a new vision, created a new plan, and were equipped with a completely new set of tools to grow the business that we wanted to grow.

Had this program been a one-size-fits-all approach to contractor coaching, we would not have lasted a year. I like custom, it is why I remodel. I like building something specific for someone specific. Aspire is a remodel company at heart. They have the ability to enter your house, listen to your vision, help you develop it, and then equip you with the tools to build it, but you have to build it……

We are by no means done. We will never be done improving. Thanks to Aspire though, we are light years from where we started. We are still small, still boutique, still making great friends and building great projects, but we are no longer a breakeven company. We have a vision and a set of plans to help us fulfill that vision and Aspire has played an instrumental role in helping us accomplish this goal.
