A must-visit in Valentine. This fantastic locally owned bookstore ranks with the best. A well-curated section on Nebraska, the Sandhills, and Native Americans. Dozens of kids titles. Smartly designed for easy browsing. Dozens of local products and crafts on sale, including wines & delicious vinegars. Helpful local owner.

Beautiful interior with options of all varieties and more than just books. Very helpful small staff who would communicate with you in kind fashion. I go here everytime I stop in Valentine and it always seems like they have something new in my interest area. Do recommend.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Pretty sure this is a hobby for the owner(s) and they're probably just living of their husband's income as they don't care about getting customers. We are in 2024 and they're still requiring masks. Yet one of them goes out back and smokes like a chimney. One of them was even a nurse...or maybe that's why she's not a nurse anymore because she doesn't understand science. Viruses can get through masks . Which anybody with half a brain cell knows this from high school biology class. Then the CDC even came out and said forcing them was a mistake and they didn't work. Now let's couple this with the fact that said owner goes all over town, in businesses and doesn't wear a mask herself...yet was wearing one in her own store They will never get one penny of my money. Amazon and Barnes and Noble won this battle. Which is sad because I love supporting local small businesses. She hasn't earned my money or the money her husband gives her to "operate" this joke of a store, let alone live off of.

I was excited to find a bookstore while staying in town, and especially one that requires masks! As a bookstore manager myself, I was blown away by the thoughtful curation - very locally focused in a way that emphasizes the Indigenous peoples of the region and highlights contemporary writing. The bookseller working was also super friendly and helpful. I walked in to grab a book to get through a blizzard and walked out with a box full of books. I'm planning on stopping in every time I'm back in Valentine!

Shame on me for not reviewing Plains Trading Company sooner! It’s a wonderful bookstore with kind and helpful owners and staff. In addition to books, they also have a wide selection of great items like natural bath and body products, coffee and tea, local wine and children’s toys. I very much appreciate that they require masks and feel comfortable and safe shopping here during the pandemic as a result.

Cute book store! Books and more for everyone. They did ask us to wear a mask which was interesting just because the rest of the town didn't. They happened to have a book signing when we were there which was fun. Definitely contributes to the downtown appeal. The staff was fairly friendly and very helpful!

Love this bookstore!! I live in Lincoln but its always a highlight to come home and check out this store! Great book selection for adults and also children! Everyone is so friendly and I greatly appreciate and respect their mask policy.

This is my favorite independent bookstore in all of the world. They have a wonderful selection of Great Plains, Sandhills and Indian history, and a well curated selection of bestsellers. One of my favorite stops in Valentine when I come here.
