Hello everyone.
I'm from Ukraine.
I flew to the USA recently with my little daughter.
My daughter is in trouble
-with writing
-with speech
- communicating with other people
- self-doubt
In a word, diflexion. I used to be embarrassed to talk about it publicly, but now I have accepted it. The war in my country changed my daughter again, she closed herself and stopped talking. We left the cities where there were hostilities.
I have been looking for a Therapeutic Clinical Center for a long time to help my daughter feel healthy again. And on our way luck happened, I met MARIA. She and her center helped us a lot. My daughter and I are very grateful for the fact that Maria is engaged individually with us. The atmosphere in the Therapeutic Clinical Center is pleasant, everyone is very friendly, educated and professional in their field. I recommend this cent.

Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC) has been a life saver for my son and our entire family. After years of struggling with learning differences and the social and emotional challenges associated with them, we finally found a place where he can learn and be understood in a supportive environment. The programs and services that Maria Bagby and her incredible staff offer are immeasurable. My son is very bright but could not learn a thing in the traditional public school setting. We pulled him out of the local high school and enrolled him full-time at TLC second semester freshman year. We did it because we needed to save our son before he fell through the cracks academically and just got shuffled along in the system because the supports and resources just aren’t available. He desperately wanted to learn and succeed. In just a few weeks we saw significant changes and improvements and he was able to master and succeed in all his subjects. He was thriving emotionally too. He continued taking a class over the summer at TLC entitled “Executive Functioning” and worked as a student intern helping out with the younger students. He now attends 2 days a week to receive the extra help and support he needs while also attending a local charter school. Therapeutic Learning Center plays a critical role in my son’s learning needs, and we will continue to incorporate it into his overall academic program and goals. We are so grateful that such a special place exists.

TLC and its amazing staff have helped my son tremendously! They have helped my son's dysgraphia and reading comprehension issues immensely. My son is in 4th grade and despite having very strong decoding skills (also thanks to TLC), his comprehension was lacking. School testing showed his comprehension was behind one grade level. We were really starting to see it in all of his school subjects. Social studies, reading comprehension tests and math word problems...scores were coming back in the 40%-60% range and always my son was having to retake the tests. Since the school year started when my son would bring back his school work every Friday my anxiety levels would rise in fear of what his school folder would bring. After 6 weeks with Maria and her staff, my son's reading comprehension has vastly improved. And it is showing in his school testing. Last week he received an 80% on a reading comprehension test involving an 8 paragraph test on Sequoia and Redwood trees in California. He scored 13 out of 15 questions correctly! He also scored a 96% on his math test(which involved word problems)...Literally my jaw dropped! In fact his teacher took me aside and asked me more about Therapeutic Literary Center. She wanted to know how they were teaching him and wanted their contact info so that she could offer it to parents of other students who have learning problems. She made sure I knew that my son took these tests without any help.
We are also starting to see an improvement in my sons writing and dysgraphia. Writing for him is very painful for two reasons. His handwriting is not very good and his thoughts on paper are always jumbled. But since working with TLC his handwriting is much more legible and thoughts are much more clear when completing a book report. Again I am floored.
I usually don't do reviews but really feel that I am doing TLC an injustice by not letting others know of our experience. Maria identified a number of factors that were hurting my sons comprehension some of which have been deficits with language processing, vocabulary, processing speeds and fluency. And put together an intense program in which my son them 3 times a week. We know there is still more work that needs to be done but my husband and I are starting to see improvement with my son across the board. In fact we are hoping that our son's working with TLC may mean him getting off of his IEP...that is our goal!
My son has had learning issues for awhile and we have tried other programs to no avail. Big difference I think between TLC and the other programs that are out there has been their compassion and focus! Maria's staff is very professional and care very much. After every session they are detailed into what they did in each session. Last Friday afternoon one of her instructors, Marco spent 20 minutes with me after my sons session to show me certain games my son could do at home..this on a Friday afternoon and after his session was over!
Again, I can't say enough about the quality and compassion of TLC! Thank you to Maria and her staff!

We were fortunate enough to happen upon this wonderful school when our daughter was having severe difficulties reading and keeping up in school. She was beyond frustrated and her self esteem was suffering, so we enrolled her at first for a few hours each day before school. After doing that for 6 months and seeing steady improvement, we decided to enroll her full time for the past 2 years. What a complete turn around it's been. Her self esteem is back, her love for learning is back, and she now has some great skills for helping her through the remainder of her school journey. This is truly a one of a kind program that we cannot recommend highly enough. If you have a child who's struggling in school, this is the place to be to help them. Maria, and the entire staff at TLC, we will miss you greatly and are forever in your gratitude.

Maria uncovers the diamond in every child. Our 4th grade son did not like school because he detested reading. My wife found the TLC and started our son on a 10 week intensive (5 hours per week) program working at the core of the issue: processing speed, visual tracking, and visual discrimination. After 10 weeks, his teachers said, "Whatever magic they are doing over there, we want some." The work to become a great reader with automaticity, high levels of fluency and comprehension is many years in the making, but Maria and her team of motivating and trained clinicians took a 10 year old who was struggling and gave him the tools to work on it himself. The real magic was tricking/motivating him into practicing the brain functions that are at the core of reading (visual tracking, letter discrimination, phonemic awareness, blending, segmenting, and chunking) BEFORE they asked him to read. Now his fluency and comprehension are way up as measured by the school and the TLC! The TLC is yoga for the brain!
