Went on the Halloween lights special and enjoyed the experience. It was part regular tour but mostly Halloweenish with a pretty good soundtrack playing in the background. Dress warmly for fall/winter night rides as some of the cars are windowless.

The Conductor/guide was very knowledgeable and amusing as well. We learned a lot about mining and some things about the history of the area. Definitely worth the $17 admission fee. The tour ran about 45 minutes and there's more to see around the train station. Plus, we saw a wild mustang near the conclusion of our trip, and, a mile deer just after.

Beginners hint: best to sit on the West side of the train at the start and on the East on the way back as that's how the tour is mostly presented

We chose this because it was dog friendly. We were staying in Reno, and the drive was pretty twisty. My husband had a hard time going up the stairs, but the other guests and conductor were very patient. Our dog wasn't sure of the train moving at first, but he found a safe space. We had a great train ride!

An attraction worth visiting!

Conveniently located near the main street of town. For tickets about $20 for adults and $8 for kids, it is also very affordable for a beautiful 35 min train ride through the Comstock mine area and a very insightful, and often funny, narration of the history of the area. Don, our guide today was really informative and had tons of energy. There is seating in a covered and open cart. We road on a steam engine but was also told they have a diesel engine as well. I would call ahead of time to inquire which one runs prior to your arrival. A quaint gift store is on the grounds and offer common souvenirs and cold drinks for sale. Friendly staff.

Not overly impressed with the Holiday Lights Christmas Train.
Definitely get the even numbered seat to get the best view of Santa’s Workshop. It’s a young family experience as the 3-8ish kids will certainly enjoy.
You get a hot chocolate a bag of cookies and a gift bag already for ya at yur seat. Some bags have better hand held lights for the kids. So luck of the draw I guess.
The recorded voice had some problems during the first half of the trip.
Like I said good for young families.

Virginia City was awesome, we walked the streets and shopped, took a half hour train ride with a wonderful conductor!! He was very funny.. We had Mexican food and stopped at bucket of blood balloon. A must go. And to end our trip we went and saw the western skit. I was great...

This is such a cute little train! The tour is very informative as you drive the train for about less than 30mins. If you go online you'll see a coal train and a diesel one, but the coal one is being repaired. It cost about $17.00 per ticket for adults and I think $8.00 for children. You can buy them online or in person, they run the train 7days a week usually from 10:30am with the last ride at about 4:00pm.

Very cool experience! The conductor was really nice and told us all kinds of stories for the whole ride. So many beautiful views of the mountains you can see on the ride , and u can see old buildings and old mining equipment. We really enjoyed it. We also got some little items from the gift shop. It was really cool!
