Recommendations and Considerations

For individuals seeking to engage with the Wilde Oats Horsemanship Center, thorough preparation and consideration are recommended:

  • Course Selection: Clearly define your goals. Are you interested primarily in taking riding lessons to learn how to ride, or do you need a boarding facility for your horse Some centers offer separate packages or may have limited capacity for both services simultaneously.
  • Lesson Booking: If pursuing riding lessons, inquire about scheduling availability, costs per lesson, and the qualifications of the instructors. Consistent practice is key to progress, so booking regular sessions in advance is advisable.
  • Boarding Requirements: If opting for boarding, understand the specific requirements and costs involved. Questions regarding feed types, turnout options (daily access to pasture), and emergency protocols are essential.
  • Facility Visit: If feasible, visiting the center in person before committing to lessons or boarding is highly recommended. This allows you to assess the facilities firsthand, observe lessons or horse handling, and interact with the staff.
  • Accessibility Confirmation: While the center states it has wheelchair accessible features, verifying these during a visit ensures they meet your specific needs.

Utilizing the contact information provided—phone, website, and physical address—enables potential clients to gather more detailed information, ask specific questions, and schedule necessary appointments before making any commitments.

Due to my poor health at the time, I sent my horse to Niki at Wilde Oats for 6 months of training over the winter of 2022. My horse left here healthy, and while she is a forward horse who required an experienced handler, she had basic ground manners.

She came home dangerous to handle, underweight, undermuscled, and covered in fungal infections and untreated cuts and sores. First Niki claimed it was normal and my horse was fine despite vet assessment to the contrary, then she blamed a working student and said she "put her on probation". I was given a partial refund to avoid small claims court, and Niki's assurance that she would no longer take outside horses for training. Since she apparently is still taking outside horses, I feel it's my duty to share what happened to my horse in her care.

The top pics are my horse the day before I took her to Niki.
The middle are the day I brought her home after 6 months in Nikki's care.
The bottom are my horse after 2 months of rehab.

I'm sure some folks have a great experience with Niki, she certainly knows how to talk to people. But if you cannot be actively involved in your horse's care while it's there, I would advise caution.

My cousin brought her horse to Nikki for boarding and training and the horse was returned in horrendous condition; Malnourished, filthy, and in need of rehabilitation.

So the teachers are really nice there I remember all the teachers they were really helpful and great they had a great sense of humor and the first on I rode was dirt Steve he was really respectful then in the past months I’ve loved it there and made a bunch of friends my age and it’s say goodbye to the. really great but Froto is rough tho when I tried riding him he kept running away so I kept with the others and also at least one of the horses each time were hurt or crippled, And Nikki is a great person she has alit of spirit but I will no longer be going there because I have moved if there is another place I will tell them all about here tell them all about here oh and they are great because they start you off bearback so when you start you won’t be afraid to go bearback anyways great horsemanship 😃😄😊
