We have had a great experience here. Brendan is a great, energetic teacher. He’s very good with the kids. He has an uncanny ability to learn (and remember!) all the kids’ names and things about them (like what other classes they go to, their siblings, their interests, etc).
I can’t really say that our 8-year-old has learned much “martial arts”, but he really enjoys the class. The class is more like 45 minutes of organized physical activity and fun games. So the kids get really into it.

My 6 yr old daughter has been training with Brandan at SDSS for the past year and a half, and it’s been one of the best parts of her week. She’s grown more confident, made great friends, and learned real martial arts skills that she’s proud of. She's earned new belts, which has given her a sense of accomplishment that's not often found in today's "participation trophy" era of kid activities.

What stands out most are the end-of-class talks where Brandan speaks to the kids about values like self control, honesty, and respect. As a parent, it's helpful for another adult to instill these vales to our kids and also gives us a lesson to point to at home - "What does Sensei Brandan say about controlling our bodies?"

SDSS has given my daughter the tools to use to protect herself against aggressive sibling while play fighting (blocking vs. hitting) as well as how to stand up and fight back when necessary, something every girl should learn how to do.

Brandan is amazing, but we've also had substitutes in class who brought the same A-game of humor, goofiness, and leadership that sets these classes apart.

We’re moving soon and so sad to be leaving. We’re incredibly grateful for everything this program has given our family—it’s so much more than just a martial arts class!

Sensei Logan's natural leadership and teaching abilities are impressive. His level of skill, integrity, dedication, and kindness are impactful and exemplary. As parents, my husband and I appreciate that our two autistic children (currently ages 5 & 4) are valued members of the Dojo who are offered the same level of respect and dignity as any other student. A priceless fact that speaks very highly to the impressive character of Sensei Logan. We highly recommend SDSS Newton!
